Boiled Linseed Oil

Found a can of this stuff in the shop where I teach.. On that other message board that only now sporatically works I remember someone mentioning that they use boiled Linseed oil as a sealer for their baits. Is there anyone over here that uses it... can I still paint over it with acrylic paints? Does anyone have any pointers as the can I have has no instructions?

I would experiment with it on some scrap wood. I know it's stinky stuff so make sure you have an open window to allow air to come in.

I have used boiled linseed oil in the past on some of my carvings. I have found that it takes a couple of days or more for it to dry. I have been told that you need to be careful when using it and to properly dispose of any rags that you use with it. It has a reputation for spontaneous combustion. Personally, I would find something else to use that wouldn't be as dangerous.
