Don't know what it is about frogs and rats, but thought I'd try to make my own Mouse. Somewhere I saw online had a mouse with a hook tail to use worms for the tail. Thought I'd make my own version of one.
Length: 2.25" (without tail)
Diving depth: 0"-4"
"T"d hook to prevent scratching
"Googley eyes" Under the clearcoat
"Bleeding bait" belly, eye ring paint and hook
Interchangeable tail (Use just about any plastic you want!)
Floats level, wakes with slow retrieve, sub surface action on faster retrieve.
Here's the pics! Yes, she has amazing action! You'd have to see her swim to appreciate it.
Very cool thing , I like it very much !
Guess that I'd make my own upscaled version(for pike)one day . I find it very smart of you to place a counterweight to balance the plastic tail right from the start into the lure's belly . Well thought of !
I would have tried to set in the bill a little deeper into the body for added stability , maybe cut the lip-slot deeper and make a groove in the root of the lip for the wire to pass through .
Or , maybe even better , to furnish slot and bottom of lip in a "V-shape" , so that the lip not only engages at the belly , but also on the flanks of the lureblank , 'cause there really isn't much space for anything at the pointed head portion .
But anyway , your local bass are going to eat it , I'm sure !

One cool thing about this lure is I can lengthen or shorten it to my needs.
If I'm getting short bit by a bass, I'll shorten up the tail.
If I'm catching good sized bass on it or getting bit a lot, I'll lengthen the tail to try for even bigger ones.
This lure could be made 12" long with the addition of a 10" worm
It can also be fished on it's own with no tail and it'll still swim!
It has a tight snake like wobble to it. The "butt" of the mouse shakes back and fourth very pronounced, and gets the action to the worm very well!
I'd imagine it will swim good with bigger worms on it.
I hear ya about the lip construction. It's in there pretty good with epoxy and it was a tight fit to get the lip in the slot, so I'm hoping it'll hold out for a while. I added the clear over the bill this time to seal it in and make it waterproof as well.
I'll get the bill seated better and perhaps slotted on my next bait so the wire goes through it.
One fish on this bait and I will be ecstatic. The highly pressured bass in california are tough to get on topwater unfortunatley unless you know the right place and time.

I showed this mouse to another forum I visit and now I have to make 2 more in black for other people who fish bass a night time.
Another buddy of mine wants me to make a 5" topwater walker now too.
What did I get myself into?
Great looking bait. It looks like the dog on one of the Saturday morning cartoon shows.
Great eyes, and a really clever tail idea.
I'm sure it'll work. Especially on any local ponds. If it's not too far a poke, try the Legg Lakes.
Now all you have to learn is how to say no when everyone asks for one.
I haven't seen Etch's mice yet, but Nathan makes one, or, more accurately, a rat. So real looking I gives me the creeps.
