Tungsten powder jig.

I'm making a jig from tungsten powder and I'll finish one test model tomorrow. The tungsten powder can be molded mixed with poly:http://www.tungsten-heavy-powder.com...hnon_poly.html
I'm not sure the material is regid enough as jigs ( 4oz , vertical jig ) and is soft for molding. If anyone already tried this material, please tell me about it.

Re: Tungsten powder jig.

I tried the material in 2003 but it was not regid enough as a vertical jigging spoon. (hand poured into R TV mold.) And I am not going to try again. Thanks.

Re: Tungsten powder jig.

Sounds interesting Hiro, let's see your results, sounds pretty radical to me but when we are replacing lead, anything is good. pete

Re: Tungsten powder jig.

I've made some jigging spoons for offshore vertical jigging, about 10 cm long and 5 mm thick. I tried several petterns of the mixing rate of the tungsten powder and the 2 part epoxy, but the spoons were not rigid enough for the jigging spoon. It might need some injection molding machines to get enough rigidness.(I just hand poured to the RTV mold.
But that is OK for the weight of jig head or inserted weight in the lures, I think.

Re: Tungsten powder jig.

Maybe a metal sheet backing might give you the rigidity. Thin luminium sheet, cheap, easy to shape, can be polished to shine as long as it is cleared immediately.
