I never dreamed

I can't believe this is happening to me. Word has gotten out
that Coley is making crankbaits. One guy came to me with
a lure called a Fishpup. I had never heard of it. He asked me
make him two. They looked and worked great.

Now, some guy wants me to make him
a 3 1/2 in. spook. He said they don't make it anymore.
A question about the spook, does it need any weight added
to it anywhere to make it work right???
If so where??

Thanks,
Coley

Whats not to believe Coley..Your very talented, and word gets around fast!! As for the Spook, yes they are weighted, and the further back the weight the easier they walk.I weight mine at the very back of the lure. You'll have to play around with the amount of weight you want for the desired action..Nathan

Spook

Thanks Nathan for being so nice.
Do you make a 3 1/2" spook?
How much weight do you start with?
What type of wood do you use??

Thanks again,

Coley

Coley,
Sorry for the delay,I've been under the weather the past couple of days.
I generally use pine, and turn them on a lathe. It's going to be hard duplicating something you don't have to use as a pattern.I'd start off with a 3/4 x 3/4 x 5" piece of wood and work from there. When you get it shaped the way you want, drill a 1/4" hole in very back/bottom of the lure. Now pour some lead in this hole.Just as the lead is setting up(a second or two)press the lead against a flat surface to pack the lead in the hole. Now put the lure back on the lathe, and sand the leaded area smooth.Don't drill it so deep that it effects putting a eye screw through the back.
You may have to adjust the wood size, amount of lead etc. until you get the effect you want. This should give you a starting point...also, besure to keep good notes so you remember what you did..Nathan

Dreamed

Hey Nathan.

Thanks for all the info. I do have one but. it is a 5 1/2".
I am kinda using it as a pattern. The front and rear
taper should be the same. I will just shorten the center section.

Thanks again,

Coley
