Having done the same thing myself, insomuch as thinking I have created something new and unique. Only to discover that it is has been done before. The following quote from Harry S. Truman comes to mind:
"There is nothing new in the world except the history you do not know."
sorry but i see no similarity between de pictures posted and the original ideea (the bodies and the paddles are different) , i think you should give it a try, but the paddles should be 1/2 out of the water, i mean that the body should go only 1/2 or 2/3 deep, if you want a "splash effect". If you will make it sink then you will have some kind of spinner + crank combination wich will cause tulburence ... it looks like a good musky + pike lure
I say go for it! I started a snake with paddle wheels a couple years ago and never finished it. You've got me interested in working on it again, thanks for the boost!

Without a doubt move forward on it. Just because it has been done, sort of, does not mean you cannot tweak your own version of any classic. Let us know how it goes!
Have a look at a similar project on luremaking 101. Follow the link then go to the competition page and scroll down to the duck entry and open up the video I'll guarantee it will bring a smile to your face.
I started messing around with a paddle bait design the other week...The plan was to add a piece of thin metal with slits in it for the paddles to hit and make a chattering noise everytime the paddle's spun.
