I made some marabou tailed tubes by glueing marabou to a strip of
newspaper and wrapping it around an aluminum rod. I used washable
stick glue (UHHU sp?) and the paper to temporarily hold the feathers
to the dipping tube. The butt ends of the marabou must project beyond
the edge of the paper 1/4" so that they get covered by the plastic. Only dip up to the paper but not the paper itself. After dipping, wash the paper and glue off with warm water. This method take too long, so if you could suggest a faster way, please do.
Just a thought? What about if you had the tube machined down about 2-3 mil about 1.5 to 2 " down the length. Then drill a few small holes in the shoulder you've created. Marabou has a stem on it. Insert the stem into the drilled holes. When you dip, dip past the collar about 3-4 mill. Wouldn't that secure the marabou? Bit expensive, and a bit of front end work. Maybe?
I like those fuzzy tubes, i think i have seen them before but it is definatly cool the way you are hand diping them. I might go try to make some that are bass size.
Thanks for the compliments! If anyone was to mass produce these, then I would buy from them.
I did try crappie jigs stuffed into trimmed tubes, but the action was different, they didn't spiral well when free falling.
Thanks again guys!
Haha…what end? The experimentation is still ongoing! Marabou is a pain to work with, just breathing on it causes it to fly away and get all over me and my work area. Gluing it down to newsprint is the best method that I’ve yet to try. I tried gluing the marabou to foil and thin steel strips from Venetian blinds but it took longer to wash away the glue. There’s one product I’d still like to try…water soluble PVA tape that carp anglers use for their rigs.
I also want to try using a “knife blade” dipper instead of a round rod and make a fuzzy “Basstrix” style jerk bait.
