Re: attaching curly tails...

I put in a section of stainless steel wire..(about .062 diam.)in the back of the lure.I put some super glue on the wire and back of the bait and slide the grub on the wire shaft..Nathan

Re: attaching curly tails...

Could one double it back into the lure, then glue??? Also, there was a type of glue for plastics that i ALMOST ordered a couple of years ago to repair torn plastics. It was 9.99 for a litle dropper bottle. Anyone remember it and if it is still available???

Re: attaching curly tails...

The glue your talking about is called "Pro soft Glue" or something like that..yes,it is still avaible. The stuff is really thin and will run everywhere if your not careful..(ask me how I know..LOL)and chances are, the bottle will dry up before it is gone.
I personally use super glue gel..It's cheaper, and your able too control where it goes much easier....I don't think I understand what you mean about "doubling it back"..Nathan

Re: attaching curly tails...

I wrapped a piece of ss wire around a wood screw to form a nice cork screw, keep about 1/4" straight and epoxy it into the lure.

Re: attaching curly tails...

I meant taking the end of the wire and bending it back toward the body and inserting it into the same hole. Less damaging to a fish if they grab it at that end. Is there something like a plastic push pin? something that has ribs on it to bite into a plastic grub to hold it??? Like a plastic screw.

Re: attaching curly tails...

Has anyone tried taking the spring out of a ballpoint pen; stretching it out a little and cutting it. Should be able to get 3 pieces out of it. Attaching it with a small SS staple and epoxy to the bait. Then just screw the plastic onto the spring. The spring being quite light should empart a pretty good action to the plastic.

Re: attaching curly tails...

Ken Schmitz..(MyLURES) uses those small finishing nails that have those small ribs on them....As far as the fishing injuring themselves..I don't think it can happen...they will have a mouth full of hooks before the wire would ever get them..Nathan

Re: attaching curly tails...

About glue....there was a thread recently about the glues you have mentioned....the Pro brand.....dries in the bottle, not the best bet. I recently tried a bottle of Loctite brand super glue for a little over two dollars at Wal Mart with good results....It's easy to control using the blue and gray triangular shaped bottle and seems to be in a slight gel form.....works very well. Just have to have a thin needle nearby when it clogs in the spout, but other than that...very good product.

Re: attaching curly tails...

Maybe try attatching a big baitholder hook then clipping off the bend part. the barbs on the shank should hold it without pulling out an you might get a little more action out of it side to side.
