Thanks for the reply vodkaman.I also agree mattmans method is the way to go.I believe with all the metal guides used by the members of tackleunderground over the years some one must have attempted to erase the groove by some mechanical means.Even a failed attempt at removing it I would appreciate hearing about as this would be knowledge gained.

In all truthfullness...I wouldn't waste my time trying to repair one and I don't know many that would. It won't be an easy task and will take a fair amount of time. And for the cost of just buying a new guide...
