Casting Reel drag washer lube, or not.
Help, I have an assortment of old (Started before thumbars were invented, too old to change now) baitcasters, which I try to keep clean & lubed. I bass fish mostly, so don't get to use the drags much (Winch em to the boat). Is there a rule of thumb about lubricating drag washers? If so what do you use? I have Ambassadeurs, Lews, Quantums, Daiwas, Shimanos, and a Ryobi. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Just use a very thin coat on each side of the washer. I use Shimano drag grease, it's probably the best out there.

I think it really depends on what sort of drag it is. Some are dry drag and others are lubed. If you grease a dry drag it will get jerky and mostly useless. Make sure you don't mix different brands of grease. Shimano grease is very good. cal's grease is good too!

If your drag jerks when it releases line then LIGHTLY grease the drag.
