Stuck Telescopic Rod Problem

I have a telescopic rod that is stuck, and I can't get it to move. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks Ryan.

Re: Stuck Telescopic Rod Problem

I had one that stuck and couldn't push it back in. i put a wet washcloth in the micro wave to get it real hot and then wrapped it around the joint where stuck -waited 10 or 15 seconds and was able to push it in ok. Best to wear gloves when doing it so you don't get burnt. if you try it let me know how you make out. good luck

Re: Stuck Telescopic Rod Problem

For jet engines, the bearings need heat and cold to be removed;
Apply heat to the outside section (to help it expand) and a cold source to the inside section (to help it contract). This will normally have a very sudden release action on metal parts.

After you get it freed, you might want to add a light coat of PAM to prevent future sticking problems.

Re: Stuck Telescopic Rod Problem

Just use cold. Don't use heat.

You have two hollow components. Cold makes things shrink. That means that the ID gets larger and the OD gets smaller when cold is applied as it contracts in all directions.

Heat on the outside one makes the opposite happen. The ID will actually get smaller as the material expands. That will just make that section tighter around the other half.

Cold on both makes both halves shrink in size and that is what you want.

Re: Stuck Telescopic Rod Problem

Thanks for all the replies. I took two bags of frozen peas, put one on the top and one on the bottom of the rod and waited about fifteen minutes and it fixed the problem. Thanks for the help Ryan.
