I want to do a little guide wrapping practice before I attempt to build my own rods. I have a BPS Extreme 6'10"MH that I though I would convert to spiral wrapped guides. It has 9+1 guides. In order to do bumper style is it as easy as taking the second guide and moving it to 90degrees in the same spot and moving all other guides to 180out in their same spots?
Your thinking is off on your idea, There is alot more to this tecneque. Although I have never done this wrap before. I have read about it in the Dale P Clemens ,Advanced custom rod building book. or for free info go to Welcome to Reel Rods and they have some info for you. Also try searching for acid wrap or roberts wrap. Hope this helps

the simple answer is - leave the first guide, rotate all the other guides 180* and leave them in the same place on the blank. you will want to do this anyway to cover up where you removed the old thread. You will need to add another guide (dbl. foot sz 7 is a good start) halfway between the first and second guides and set it at 90*. Placement on this guide is less important on where its at as opposed to making sure the line is not slapping the blank as it transitions to the bottom of the blank.
there's a lot of ways to skin this pig... that is likely the most basic. good luck!
I think the short answer is YES, do it like TheDude said. I use a #6 single foot guide for the the 90 degree bumper guide. If you start messing with guide spacing, you'll have to refinish the whole blank.
