Just curious if anyone has ever tried to retrofit a hook slot into anRTV mold(one piece) I have been using a 6 inch mold for swimbaits and using the wire hanger method to mold hook into bait, but would love to have something to push into bottom of mold to make a hook slot if I wanted to rig weedless. I hope I have explained this well enough, Thanks
I do remember reading a thread about it. I believe you would have to make a pop mold first from one of your baits. Glue a piece if metal in there for the hookslot. Then you can make an RTV mold from the new master. Try running a search for hookslots or maybe someone else will chime in.
Just take a thin piece of aluminum sheet metal the width you want the hook slot and trim it with tin snips to the size you want . You could make one (straight is crucial) slice with a razor knife into the belly of the mold to hold the hookslot in place for pouring baits . If you wanted to make more baits without a hook slot simply remove and the silicone will close itself back up.
I have wondered this same thing, but with Bob's 4" swimbait mold. I think that bait would be easier to rif weedless with a slot. Has anyone done anything with a 2 piece aluminum mold for adding a hook slot?
Take a piece of step flashing and cut it to size, mill a recess into each half of the mold such that it holds the flashing in place while still allowing the mold halves to close correctly. There was a post a while back discussing this.
I make all my molds by making a plug first, then making the molds. My lures with the slot are made into the plug, then it comes out in the mold, or am I missing something?
I think they are talking about making a hookslot in an existing mold that doesn't have one.
I thought thats what he meant, if its a bon' mold, don't understand why take the chance of messing it up with modifications. Unless maybe its bou'cou' molds you want to modify maybe. Me I would just pour some new rtv molds .
