gamblers swimbait, "the brutus"

there was a thread this past winter about gamblers new swimbait "the brutus". i waded a stretch of the new river on the n.c/va border on 7-22 with a buddy of mine.

we hit the first deep hole on our wade, and i only had about 5 small fish to my name. i switched over to a brutus on a 2/0 ewg hook and pegged a 1/16oz bullet splitshot to the nose. this was the first time i've seriously fished this bait. i caught about 20 redeyes and another 8-10 smallies out of this one hole with the brutus. i was concerned about the fragility of the tail, but it's surprizingly durable. i'd catch about 3-4 fish before the tail would tear off. the greatest thing about the bait was it's ability to swim slowly and maintain a nice tail wobble.

this is a nice bait for larger panfish and bass. i'm intrested in trying the larger 6" version for better smallies. if it works out, i may have an aluminum mold cut. obviously one decent day on redeyes and smallies doesn't make any bait worth dropping coin on a custom mold, but these things outpreformed 4" senkos in the grass, and they cast very well on med power casting gear, and they didn't get hung up like many baits would in the same conditions of grass and rock snot.

i'm pretty impressed with the initial qualities of this bait.

hope i put this in the right forum

patrick
