How many people actually did the poll ? 50 ? I bet you will only have 50 people pay the $3.99
Sure will be hard to learn new stuff from many people, the site will get boring with 50 members.
But then if you do get 250 Members then $1000 a month to run it sounds like you did your home work.
I wonder if it was .99 a month you would have more members and come out more on top ?
Again I do not know what to think about this except for Failure.
How many of the 7000 members post?????
How many actually have over 100 posts????
How many give info and not just take?????
How many just come here to stir the pot?????
I only have a little over 100 posts myself, have contributed a little here and there, but the TIME I spend here, hours on some occasions is worth $3.99 a month.
For those of you pissing and moaning,i wonder who have their website address in their signature.
For those of you crying foul now,how much info or sales on your products did you get here all this time for free.
Now Jerry wants to charge such a small fee to offset his costs, improve the site, add more features so what thanks does he get???????
A whole lots o'Bu#$#$IT.
Heres a link for the babies........Sesame Workshop - Home Page
Paypal is 3% + .30 but you will be getting enough money to upgrade your paypal so then it will get knocked down to 2.3% or something like that.
My apologies, your percentages are more in line, regardless, that's giving @ 30% of your money to another entity.

So will advertising be free then as well ?
To an extent, yes. Not in the forums. For businesses like yourself, you get listed into the Tacklemaker's Directory, it will be made more prominent on the site. This also includes those of you who offer products & services exclusively to us luremakers, like Hawnjigs, Reeves, Dlaery, Del & others by listing for free in the Resource Directory. That leaves the forums free from solicitation so we can discuss techniques, like it was intended. It hasn't been a prevalent problem because we moderate effectively, but users are becoming better & better at circumventing the guidelines.
I was just speaking with the subscribers about this:
Our statistics are showing a trend, about 25% of the new visitors coming here, came looking to buy custom tackle, not make custom tackle & subsequently follow another link away from TU to one of our advertisers, or a members website of interest.
New visitors last month numbered around 32,000 uniques (& summer is our slow season). That's a considerable amount of possible sales for you guys.
How to capture & serve that market is being discussed right now. It's simple using the Tacklemaker's Directory, but you only get on if you have a website. what about the hobbyists wanting to test the market, or skilled craftsmen with no PC experience?
We have 3 different options laid out on the table & could possibly pursue all 3, now that we have some capitol coming in, all in thanks to those subscribers who want TU to become a more useful vehicle for their needs.
Our existing Banner Advertising will soon become discounted for subscribers & our existing advertisers will be pro-rated & given the same discount if they ever decide to subscribe.
Subscribers will soon enjoy the option to turn off 3rd party ads if they so choose, like (google & others) Some people enjoy using them. I've seen many cool links in the google ads, but I (myself) get penalized if I use them.
Our in-house ads will remain & optionally become more targeted, displayed only in areas where their offerings are the most effective, even by geographical location.
This is just a snippet of what's coming. We're not asking people to pay to keep things the same, were asking for help to improve.
EDIT: For the record, by no means did I mean to imply that the 4 members I mentioned above were improperly advertising here, I was just implying that we want to accommodate lure makers AND those who specialize in helping us with our luremaking needs.

I am not trying to stir the pot.
Is it wrong to ask questions ? if it is then no need to Pay.
The link for Babies if it is pointing to me as one then thanks anyway but I see you have it book marked..
I do not know of one person here that actually bought anything from me from this site.
I never said I would not pay for it, I think with 7000 members and only a 2 day poll was a low blow, not that it matters anyway because Red can do what he wants with the site.
I was shocked even half of my questions got a answer. but then that was the want a bet ones.
And a fee is fine but $3.99 a month and $5.99 in a few weeks, That is not much but the thought of it sounds high.
Redgr, so will the entire site be blocked unless you pay ?
So if you have 250 paid members, and then if your lucky enough to get people to buy from you, that would be slashed because the main people paying are making there own anyway. so how are your paying advertisers going to get people to see there adds. ?
Keeping the site online & improving it to suit the needs of it's users.

By not paying what will we lose ?
At a minimum, PM, protected email, gallery & signature permissions.

If there is 7000 registered why only a 2 day poll ?
Sounds a bit rushed to me so I am in air on what to do.
I never seen the poll myself.
The poll was intended to get the input from the most active users, those who use it daily. You missed it because you were gone for 3 weeks.
We did a poll a couple of years back & the results were the same.
I didnt mass email anyone or send out another survey, because when we do, we get complaints from old members who haven't visited in years accusing us of spamming them (dont ask, I dont know how either)

I'm sorry, I didn't get a word of what you just said. care to elaborate?
A-Mac if you can get cans from behind a frat house on a party campus like we have here in Nebraska at NU. I will be seeing you on the top ten riches people list in a year or two.
redg8r Keep on doing what your doing!!!!
