I want to build a website, any body have a good free host?
I'd like to put a website together for my new "Fish N Fool Lures" a line of soft plastic baits. I have made up my mind to go into business. But to help keep costs down I'd like to make a website on a free host if there is such a thing anymore.
How about it any one know of any???? I have a friend that has a payed site at Fishingworld.com any of you use them? For you guys that do have a site what are you paying and what kind of traffic are you getting?
Im not very computer literate so when i got ready to have a webpage i tried anywhere from probably twenty to twenty five of the "do it yourself" type website design programs. I spent about two months and built (or better yet attempted) websites with each one and finally decided on the Ecomplanet.com site. Their design program delivers a very clean and proffesional looking website. If you start out with a free site you will have banner adds but they will be from companies such as Rod Saver or Tackle Logic so you dont have to be embarrased by adds from junk companies. The most important thing about Ecomplanet.com is while you are building your site you dont have to worry about losing your content. I found that many of the companies will not tell you that your content will be lost. They will deliberately delete your content. When you inquire as to what happened they will inform you that....."This sometimes happens with our free packages but to insure this does not happen in the future it is advisable to upgrade to a paid package". If something like this happens after you have spent several days or possibly a week "tweaking" everything to utmost perfection you will experience fits of rage you never dreamed possible.
There are other scams these companies like to pull and i will detail some of them when i have more time to do so. You would be surprised at what i learned during those two months.
Simple URL is a good company to register your URL (dotcom name) with. Ive never had a problem with them and their customer service responses are very quick. Their services cost between $10.00 to $15.00 a year per name but if you register it for several years in a row the cost goes down. You can get it cheaper through other companies but many of them have hidden service agreements where it will cost you extra money if you cancel your so called "business agreement" with them by transferring your URL to another company.
you could try 5u.com or 50megs.com same place really but the ulr is easy and will read yourname.5u.com their templates are limited but you have 50 megs to play with for free which allows for alot of pics. I don't know if red still has any available but he did have a great deal on space for awhile and the extras he offered were outstanding. Hope it helps, JIM
My site started out as a free site with http://www.ecomplanet.com/
I think it is limited to about 20 pics though. Very easy for PC dummies like me. I upgraded to get more picture space + other perks.
They are associated with (???) www.bigfishtackle.com a very popular fishing site.
I agree with the guys about ecomplanet being a great place to build and host your first website. I have a few pages there and so far so good. Also though I've had a number of pages on Tripod, FreeYellow and Geocities as well, and they are all still there after over four years now too. I think any of these will do the trick for you. They are all pretty easy to work with too. ;-)
