Adding links and making banners

I have a web page and I would like to add links and banners to my site but every time I try to do this It never works out.
I also would like to create a banner, but I don't have any luck with that either. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I tried a free download that was listed on one of the other postings and I get a prompt about what program I want to open it in. I've tried ALL the programs listed and it won't open. I have no idea what I'm missing.

For the banner, you need a program to design the banner. Some banners are animated, others aren't. JASC software (Paint Shop Pro), Coffee Cup, Photo Shop. Most banners are .gif type files. I don't know if you can do a banner in .jpg?

I've never used this site, but they advertise free banners:

Here's the simple code for links:

If you type this in:
Woodsac Lures

It will appear like this:
Woodsac Lures

This next link is a 'Test Bed'. You can practice typing html into the block and it will show you what the finished product would look like on a web page.

Just wanted to add, that there other types of links. You can have links that are activated by clicking on a picture too.

E-Mail links are a little different.

There's lots of info on the web. For basics, try and google the following topics:

I create banners and animated gif banners for people all the time, I strongly recommend Adobe Photoshop, bundled with Adobe Image Ready. The software is IMO easy to use and creates very professional end results.
