Online Stores...

I am getting ready to purchase my own domain name and create a decent online store where PayPal can be added as a form of payment with the drop-down list, etc to choose from.

For those of you who have an online store, what program did you use to create it? Is it free? and this is off course if you were the one who created it.

Do you host your own website or someone else does it for you?

Has anyone used Netscape Composer to create your website? Do you recommend it?
There is also the program used by this site, Del's or Bob's that seems to be very popular. I think the program is free but you need to be your own host. Is this correct?
Any advice you guys can provide me with will be very appreciated.

Thanks!

I'll recommend www.godaddy.com for your domain name.

The platform that you see on so many store fronts is OsCommerce. OSC is completely free But, you have to know something about .html and .php

You'll still need someone to host your site, or you can have godaddy do it. Check with user HwyApostle for a web hosting package. I've helped a couple of other members here work through some osc issues in the past. It's confusing, but it's reliable and it's free :!:

Search through this forum and read some of the past replies. There's some good info on website stuff here.

Thanks jake. I know a bit of HTML. I just have to remember a lot of the tags that I seem to have forgotten for lack of practice. Now, about php, I do not know what that is yet.

Good to know you are there to help!

Thank you!

Re: Online Stores...

you should try zencart, it's free, fairly secure, has email gift certificates built in, a banner manager, featured items etc......and a newsletter management system that has to be used to be believed.

it is also easilly changed and updated.

Paypals IPN is built into the software as well

it doed require decent hosting with mySQL and php installed on the webserver, if you want I can porbably help you get this software up and running if you give me an email.
