Not at all Bass Whisperer, I think someone else is having this trouble as well. Here is what I do.
I form the loop at the end of the wire with a wire bender or round nose pliers.
Then I attach the split ring with the blade on it.
Then I finish closing the loop with my pliers until the tip of the wire is to one side of the main wire and just breaking its plane. (It will look like you went too far). By going past the plane it creates tension to keep the loop closed when you do step 3.
Then I take my needle nose and gently pull the tip into line with the main wire.
Wiggle the end to make sure the tip does not pop back out to the side. If it pops to one side repeat step 3 until it stays aligned.
This may sound confusing and I can take some pics of the process if needed.
Whisperer, thanks for asking this question. I've been making spinnerbaits for years and have always been frustrated because the blades always seemed to come off no matter how far I bent the wire. TJ, thanks for the help.! Step 3 is what I've been needing. JIM
