First Post and Needing Help

Hi guys, I am new and started to make my own football jigs...I can never get the skirt to look right! Is there a certain position I need to lay the skirt down, before tying? Here is a attached picture of my first jigs, doesn't satisfy me at all...needing pointers...

They look good to me. The round stuff allways seems to lay whare it want's to. Trust me, the fish won't care. When you make your skirt, try putting the skirt coller only 1/3 of the way down and put the "short side" over the hook. If your skirts still look like they are having a bad hair day then hang the jig by the eye for a few days and let your skirt relax.

Hiya

I do not make jig type baits but do know what looks right and what looks wrong and I can see nothing at all wrong with those. I think you are being too critical of your own work . If I were to be picky in any way at all, which I am not qualified to do, I would say put a few less silicon skirtings on them as they may be a little too thick (hope you do not mind me suggesting that).

Ya second on the round rubber skirt it will always flare out. But it has great action underwater though. I am pretty sure that the tighter you tie the skirt on the more it will do that, so maybe try tying a little looser and put a drop of super glue just on your knot for good measure.

Re: First Post and Needing Help

My use of skirts is limited to in-line spinners and I have gone away from round skirts to flat skirts. It seems to have a more fluid, flowing appearance in the water when you disrupt the retrieve. You may want to see the skirts at FishingSkirts.com and talk with them about how different skirts add specific characteristics to your baits.
