Does anyone here use the larger Ultra Minnow Mold in 5/8, 3/4, and 1 oz? What I was wondering is do you have any problems with the pouring with it. I am inquiring for a friend of mine who is thinking about purchasing one. I have personally used the smaller one and had all kinds of problems with it and ended up cutting the vent lines in it. Does the larger mold have the same problem? Thanks
Javelin,
I too had problems with that mold.I tried everything you can think of to fixit. I then wrote to Do-It with my delema. They advised me to use soft lead. I got a small pot and use nothing but pure, soft lead and hav not had a bad pour yet. I re-ordered the molds, both the jig and spinnerbait and use them unmodified all the time. Hope this helps, and as a side benefit, the baits come out brighter and shinier.

Re: Ultra Minnow Mold
i use this mold a good bit i have not had any problems. are you using the bottom pour pot? i leave my mold sit on top of lead pot as it heats up so it is good and hot when i start to pour
Oh I tried everything with that mold. The spruee area is too large also and a pain to file down. I ended up having a custom mold made which is alot easier to use. Same style head, alot less hassle.
Yes the larger one also has that problem. The problem being the lead cools to fast before it gets( in my case) to the collar. Everything else pours perfect after that. I've opened up a big relief in the collar area, to let out trapped air, and let lead flow faster and never another problem again. Just my personal choice, but I pour 50/50 lead. 50% pure and 50% hard. In MPO, the powder paint lasts longer on the jig with this mix. But we all have to find what works for us. BTW, if anyone has any damaged molds let me know, I would be interested in purchasing if the price was right.

Cadman, could you explain or show a picture of the relief near the collar? Thanks Steve.
Here you go guys, hope this helps. This is not for everyone, as noted in my tutorial, this was done because I use very hard lead at times. There is a solution for everything..............Ted
