What sizes of heads and tubes are you using?  Are you pouring the heads?  Are you pouring the tubes?

That base looks a lot like Gene Larew’s plumb to me.

Here is how I make it:

8oz plastisol

10 drops purple plumb

3 drops strawberry 

4 drops black

flake to your choice

I like the pliability of 24-26 ga myself.

I don’t sand or file.  I use a dull knife and wipe the blade across the mark left by the cutters.  That flattens it out so it doesn’t show after painting.

I just clean the mold with acetone then apply the high temp silicone where I want it.  I smooth it out with a sharp straight edge and clean up any excess with a QTip set it aside for 24 hours then use it.

I decided to use some high temp silicone to block the hook channel.  It worked great.

I have been using a cheap pair of gate cutters from Barlow’s.  I’ve cut several thousand sprus off and only sharpened them a few times.

You may be getting them too hot before dipping.  Try heating just enough to get a light dull coating.  That should be thin and not run when baked.

I don’t think so.  They do make more than one size but I don’t know if they fit.

I went ahead and dropped the temperature to 650°.  My lead won’t pour at that temp.  Increased it to 700°.  It poured better but not perfect.  I might try a little bit of high temp silicone just behind the head.  Just enough to stop the flow but not enough to crack the mold.  If that works then I can go back to 750° and forget about it.

Ted I checked for an obstruction with a single edge razor blade and didn’t find anything.  I’m going to drop the temp 50° and see if that helps.  I’ll report back.

I’m glad you found something that works for you.  I have never been able to do it so I just use spinner bait blanks or split rings.

I’ve switched to it for most of my Ned fishing, which is a lot from October to May.  A tid bit… While fishing a stretch in Piney Creek on Table Rock Lake I lost 15 Ned rigs as I don’t go into a fishy area to get a bait back.  After I bought that mold I fished the same water with the new head and only lost 2.  That sold me.   I also furnish heads for my neighbor since he springs for the gasoline.    (Those lost heads had a sevelon weedguard.)

Thanks for the suggestions guys.  I’ll check the mold and lower the temp, though I can’t go down much and keep a good flow.

I hadn’t used mine for several months until yesterday.  It is a stock mold and I am using the Victory hook that is recommended.  I am using hard lead in an rcbs heat furnace set on 750°.  I made 3 sizes of jigs and many of them has a run up the hook shaft.  I don’t remember it before.  I rarely change the rcbs setting, but may have at some time.

Do you think my lead was too hot?

I’m not familiar with that but I looked it up and it looks like green pumpkin with black, purple and green flake.  You might find it listed above in the soft plastics cook book.

I put a coat of super glue on the wire where the spacer fits,  then slide the spacer over the glue and crimp.

X2 on the JB Weld.  I was drilling out some cavities in one of my molds and got one too deep.  I fixed it with JB.  It has held for close to 20 years and untold pours.

Just keep in mind that most if not all heat stabilizers are not clear and they will color your plastisol.
