  1. Nice work Blackjack.....can't wait for the next test results. Interesting that you only had 3 big moves in th 60 foot span. Now that there is an actual graph for "ALL" to see what a hunting bait does.......maybe some of the mathmatical wizards care give some reasoning. I find it hard to think that current was the culprit.
  2. the hunting action just adds an extra ingrediant to enhance the lure.....they all will catch fish!!!!
  3. I guess that is why we are always outside the box? Finding that unique design that makes the bait we make sooooooooo special. I can't argue the point that the "new age" of design is here, but it will still come down to manual tweaking to get that bait special......
  4. I have been following this post since day one.... for those of you who do not want or like your "hunting" baits I will be happy to give you my addy. After re-reading the above quote numerous times, maybe everyones definition of a "hunting" bait is very different. Back when I fished ALOT, I might have 10-15 crankbaits the exact same color. While pre-fishing (when the crank bite is on) I would take the crank off as soon as it caught a good fish, and then put another exact same crank on. If it caught a fish, I would tie on another. These baits that catch fish, went into my crank box. The ones that did not catch fish went into a "dud" box. The point I am trying to make is: even though you have the exact same crank, some have just a bit more difference that catches fish better. Could it be that these baits have that "little twitch" that Skeeter talks about? Damn well could have been.... back then I new nothing about a hunting bait. I now look for anything a crank bait does that makes it special. Special cranks go in Tally's boat!!!!! Thanks JT for tipping me off on the "special" baits....
  5. Let me be the first to say cograts on your findings. It will be interesting to see or hear if what you have discovered is as appealing to the fish, as they are the only thing that tell if a bait is good or not. I think we can now close the issue to the trial and error session. No matter how good it looks on paper, it still has to be tested and re-worked. I think your bag proves that fact as well as the trash cans others have. Actually, I have no problem with you not wanting to share your ideas until your infringement papers go through. It is a far cry from what we were talking about in the "heated" post. Having read your post I think I am safe to say that you are not as willing to share as you stated in that post...... at least not until you are protected. Maybe now you understand why not everything is posted on TU. I follow your post and take what I can get from them. I have no doubt that you are finding things that many are not. On the other hand, some have already figured out the "hunting" bait and can reproduce them everytime. For FACT.....there are some here on TU that play with baits to get them to do certain things. Some of the actions can be explained and some can not. Is there a "perfect" bait? I doubt that, but we keep trying to make it. Good luck with your experiments and findings!!!
  6. you will probably never know but I would almost bet the first 4 were the ones that are lose. It has to be in the process and not a wire / lead factor. If I had to guess I would say either the lead was not as hot as you thought or the mold was not as hot. As stated before, how and when you remove the bait from the mold could also be a factor. never tried the wax inside the mold and if you elect to do so.....take caution. I use bees wax to bring the crap to the surface and it will ignite in / on the lead. i would be curious to here what happens the next time you pour? maybe keep the baits lined up as you poured them, let them sit over night and check the wire for the loseness.
  7. not shocked to see the different answers on the hooks...personally the best hook is the one that is sharp out of the box and can be easily honed back after nailing a rock or two. I have not seen a hook yet that stands up to rock after rock that does not need some touch up on the water.
  8. if it was a suspending bait to start with...I am betting that it will sink with devcon......tell us your findings.......unless you put a very thin coat on it!
  9. try mixing a small amount of yellow to white until you get the bone color you want
  10. without a doubt, thru wire is the safest way. However, if you epoxy the lip in correctly, you should not have any problems. "Correctly" is the key word.
  11. cause I am a bait hog!!!! and if JT says no.......I get the indian envolved
  12. wow cheese......i missed the hook thing. I now see that those baits are for pre-tourny fishing don't want to give those fish any sore mouth:lolhuh:
  13. You just love TEASING me? Why is it that we make baits and the screwed up ones are the ones we keep:whistle: Now that I know you preferr the "seconds"...... I can clean out my trash can:lolhuh: Just call me Jesse James Tally, cause I am coming to GA!!!!!
  14. so is the other lip crooked as well? the crooked lip may not be the only factor
  15. sorry I meant the thickness
  16. You probably anwered your own question. If the baits ran good before the modification.....there you go. Man, the width of that lip is huge....what size is it?
  17. LMAO.....i will try to make a long story short. I went fishing in November last year and LaPala asked me to catch a "this years fry"....for a model for his "choked" carving. Told him no way that would happen.....well it did and I sat in the boat laughing for about 15 minutes.....thus, the "LP CURSE"......the crankbait was bigger than the "fish". do yourself a favor and go get the May / June issue of FLW......but only if you want to see some pretty baits. Man those guys can paint!!!
  18. Actually......all but one are members of TU. I really don't know if Dale Sellers post here or not, if he does I am not aware of it. here is the list from another post. Dale Sellers don't know if Sellers is a member here or not? sellerscustomlures.com i think Dave Talbert = Tally John Prior = Blades and Baits Jeff Klein Skeeter Tim Hughes Hughesy Kelly Barefoot = Kellure? Bobby Kelly MaddoxBay Blades was responsible for all of the recognition. Pretty nice honor for myself to be in such great company. Keep your eye on the magazine as I think they like publishing about custom baits.....
  19. nah...don't be to critical on JT. He has been doing this for years and I really did not expect him tolay it on the line. However, (like the 3 bears) JT will walk into his shop and say.... "someone has been snooping in my shop". that will be me JT....lol
  20. please correct me if I am wrong
  21. 30 came and went a long time ago. now all you have to look forward to is being retired.......tired today and re-tired tomorrow:lol: Happy B-day and it is a 30 year old tradition that you send all of us a custom crank.
  22. Dean.....do you have that issue already??? KY and AR always seem to get the issues first. The big thanks needs to go to John Prior aka Blades and Baits......he was the one that put this connection together to get custom painting and lures associated with FLW. If you all have not seen the first issue on custom baits......go read the article. JT did an excellent job explaining why custom baits and did it with dignity to not down grade mass produced baits. First class job JT and thank you!!
  23. did I miss something here???? I seen the master of paint had posted and thought I might learn a trick or two...... I have got to get me some cameras set up in Ila....
  24. Tally
