  1. Hey Guys, I need some help. I'm trying to reinvent a floating mouse topwater bait that I make. I currently make them out of a wine bottle cork shaped down to a mouse like body and I add a weedless hook and some lead to it and I cover all that with soft plastic. Although they are a fish catching machine, they are pretty time consuming to make and the life expectancy is poor at best, as the fish can pretty much destroy one in a few hours of fishing when the bite is on. I want to try to remake this lure using a soft durable foam, but I can find one that the bait wont fill with water and sink after finding for 15 minutes or so. I tried ( Smooth On ) soft foam and not only was it a total failure, plus their customer support was rude and didn't even try to help me. They blamed me for not knowing their product even though you cant find that info anywhere on their site. Plus he said their product are not designed for fishing lures even though they have watched tutorials that they made on how to make fishing lures with their foam products. I will never buy another product from them and I would suggest you shouldn't either. Anyway does anybody know of a pourable soft foam that is closed cell and will not sink?
  2. Does anybody know where to get a good stencil kit at a reasonable price. All I can find they want 10 to 15 bucks per stencil.
  3. Does anyone know of a good way to clean off the sticky residue that builds up on aluminum molds over time without damaging the mold? I have tried soap and water with a steel wool pad or a scotchbright pad, alcohol with a paper towel, gas on a paper towel, scraping with a credit card and gas, and dry steel wool pad. All work to some degree, None of these work without a lot of elbow grease. Dry steel wool pad seems best so far.
  4. I'm looking for 168MM S-Waver blanks. The only place I knew to get them was Avid tackle (who was a flake) and seems to have gone out of business now.
  5. Yes it has poor action when twitched, good quality glide baits work even on a slow steady retrieve.
  6. This is my first ever attempt at making a wood lure. I'm looking for advise on what to do to this bait to get it to work better. It is suppose to be a suspending glide bait. It sinks a little to fast and it has no side to side action when reeled slow. I'm thinking moving the line tie lower on the bait will help. I also plan to remove a little lead from the front of the bait as it pauses head down and sinks a little to fast. The front of the bait currently has a flat front like a lipless crank, would rounding this over and taking the lip off help or hurt it. I used the basic shape of a Salmo slider for a pattern although I have never seen one just a picture of one. I found a drawing of what I think is a Salmo slider pattern, but mine does not have this profile looking at it from the top down. It is shaped more like this as I didn't find this pattern till after I had this made. You guys that have made glide baits before what can I do??? other then pitch it in the trash and start over.

This color has been a instant hit with the LM bass and fishermen.
  9. This is one of my all time favorite colors Strippers love this color as well as LM bass.
  10. These are a super heavy salt bait
  11. I have developed a new Metallic line of baits that really pop. This sparkel is way better in in person then you see these then photos can show,
  12. If LFG can make it through a brain tumor lets hope Bear can to.
  13. I found out today he has a brain tumor, and most likely will not be back in business.
  14. We need a list of all companies that sell soft bait making materials other then molds. Like plastisol , glitters, colors, bags, salt all in one place , with ratings so you know who to buy from.
  15. I tried to log into Bearsbaits website to order more plastic last nite and the website was shut down, so I waited to call today to find out the phone # has been disconnected. Did they go out of business????? Does anyone know of another source of Calhoun soft Plastic? I need some ASAP
  16. You just have to make a topwater bait so you can drag it on top of the ice.
  17. I like this idea and although I have never made a hard bait from scratch, I plan to here soon and love to see how other people make baits. I would suggest doing a photo montage of building the lure with at least 3 pictures plus a brief summery on the basic process of how they made the bait. The first pix would be on making the lure body, another of the finished lure before painting, and one after painting. Plus one more of a fish caught with that bait. The pixs should to show the bait in the fishes mouth so you can tell it was the same bait. I think this could be a fun contest. So whoever wants to join in send in 4 pictures and put all qualified entries up for a vote. I will put the prize up for this and send the winner 4 packs of my world famous Sink-N-Fool baits. They are a extra heavy salt stickbait that out fishes all the other stickbait hands down Here is a few samples of what they are. I have a new metallic bait line the Red Shad, Silver Shad, Fool's gold, Alabama Craw, and Midnite blue Shad that is really cool. The winner will get to pick out of these what they want. The metallic colors will be one of the 4 in the picture per pack not mixed like the photo.
  18. I made some typos I see in the Subject line it should read Gold or Silver Foil. here is a picture of it. It will give you a chrome like finish when done correctly.
  19. I ordered some transfer foil and I got way more then I will ever use so need to sell off some of it its 1 1/2" wide by how ever long you want. $2 for 4 ft with free shipping, or 6ft for 3 bucks, 8 ft for $4 will post pixs later.
  20. How hard is the PVC decking to carve? Does it sand and carve like wood? I think I might try to at least make the prototype with it If it is not as buoyant as some other materials to me is good as I want the bait to nearly suspend. Where would I find a scrap piece of it?
  21. The tail i was planing to make it thick on the edge of the inside curve and thin on the rest of it so it will straighten out and just ripple is what I had in mind for it. I think that will work. Nobody said what kind of wood or product I should use to make this out of ? Ideally I would like it to end up near neutral buoyancy but still not dive to deep. AngArch I ever said it was new, just new to me. I know there have been baits similar to this in the past, but I'm not trying to copy any bait. I just drew this up as something that I thought would work. I'm not real interested in buying one similar to this as I wanted to create something my self like all my other baits I make are my creations. Oh btw I know Seth, I thought him everything he knows. lol
  22. Here is a basic Idea I have for a Pike/Muskie bait I want to make. I want a ton of action in the bait which is why I gave it 3 different ways for it to get the bait to move. First is a large bill at a sharp angle to make it almost a wake bait, but dive about 3ft deep hopefully. Second is to make it a broken back bait with a double hinge so the tail can move side to side but not up and down, and last the oversize curl tail. that will be screwed to a wire screw lock coming out of the bait. The rear treble hook will have one point buried in this to hold it in place. OK my questions are; what should I make the body of the bait out of that will give it good action and get down to the 3 foot or so depth on retrieve, but still hold up to toothy critters. Do you think this bill angle will work for what I'm after? Are there any molds already out there for a tail design like this?
  23. No that's a totally different knot, a Trilene is a basic 2 turn clinch knot
  24. You gotta be weird if you don't like a Fish-N-Fool knot LOL
  25. You don't have to use a heat press with reg. foil tape, (that is the best way) but you can get good results with spray or brush on adhesives.
