  1. Thanks. I'm guessing I can find these at a woodworking store? Do you put them in a Dremel?
  2. I am going to make some balsa poppers and was wondering what is a good way to make the cup for the mouth of the bait? I would like to make quite a few, so somthing quick and repeatable is what I am looking for.
  3. Anyone have a good source for these besides the retail tackle making places (Barlows, Janns etc)? I can get 10K made for $350 (minimum order), but I don't need that many and don't want to spend that much. If someone wants to split an order let me know. This is a great shakey head.
  4. Tried the new screw locks from Do-It. T>hey hold like a rock. I also noticed they are heavier wire than the originals.
  5. Thanks. I'll bend the old ones until I am out and use the new. It is a great head for shakey fishing.
  6. I know Do-it changed the molded end of the screwlock. The old ones just have a 90 degree bend. The new are curved back 180 degrees. I poured a bunch with the old screwlock and they get loose or fall out after one fish. Are the new style any better or is there a better solution for keeping these in? Or for that matter a better screwlock, say a heavier wire?
  7. Hemostats is the way to go with lipless baits and this kind of dryer. Works like a charm.
  8. I think Do-It makes a mold that is for a Gammie hook. It isn't exactly the same, but similar. Take a look at this http://do-itmolds.com/shop/index.php?route=product/category&path=1_7_258 Steve
  9. Now that is funny! Best post on the net I've seen in a while.
  10. So, is the new Dick Nite formula for sale? I'd like to try it out. In my opinion, the old formula was a pain to work with and store. I gave up on it.

    Popr Eyes

Thanks. I'll give that a try. The painted eyes on this bait look terrible.

    Popr Eyes

Anyone have any tips for painting Rebel Pop-R eyes? The trouble I'm having is the eye is molded into the head and when you dab the paint for the eye it wants to flow into the eye cavity. It's pretty hard to get a perfectly symmetrical eye. I was wondering if anyone has ground the pupil down with a dremel and then used the 3D eyes. It would look a whole lot better.
  13. Yes, that is my understanding also. I don't think Sonny M. had anything to do with that design, unless he gave it to kelly. All those guys "in the hills" know each other.
  14. The only one I have seen in that style is the Mimic. It is supposed to be 3/8 oz. and easier to cast than a shad rap. I have one, but have not thrown it yet. Good luck getting Kelly to respond to email. I'm not sure what is going on at Mimic, as they have never responded to email. He may have had to get a regular job when the economy went sour.
  15. I agree on the brass line tie. I don't think that had anything to do with it, yet on Ebay Bagleys with the brass tie were going for outrageous prices. It was probably more that when bagleys was making them with the brass tie they had a lack of consistency with making their baits and some of them had the ballast off-center or higher in the bait and they hunted when cranked fast. Most of the squarebill afficianados will tell you that maybe one out of every ten baits back in the day would hunt. Some of the guys from Missouri that fished Truman a lot advocated bending the line tie down on the bait closer to the bill to make the bait hunt. I don't know if this really works on a squarebill, but on a bagleys bang-o-lure you get a whole different action when you bend the line tie down. The bait swings much more left and right. It is a lot more erratic. I crank with a 6:1 Curado and I usually turn the reel handle about as fast as I can with a squarebill. I do the same with big deep diving crankbaits, most of the time, but especially in the summer. A fast moving bait triggers strikes, even when they don't really want to bite.
  16. I think a fast retrieve is critical to getting a bait to hunt and getting more strikes with a crankbait. If you can retrive the bait fast enough so it's just about ready to roll you'll get it to hunt, although not all baits will do it. Some track straight as an arrow no matter what. I think some weight up high also helps, as it causes instability from the center point of the wobble. Rick Clunn has always been a proponent of cranking square bills fast. He in fact says that the guy that invented the first squarebill (the Big O) showed him how to fish it and it was as fast as he could reel it. Here's a link to the story on it http://www.fishingworld.com/pro-rickclunn/crankbaits/ Pretty interesting stuff.
  17. The Deep Secret was very hard to get a long cast with. The bill acted like a sail in any wind. If one could make a small bodied deep diving bait with a weight transfer system I think you'd have something. The relatively new flat sided Spro Little Johns sure cast well with the weight transfer, although they aren't super thin like a D-bait or Mimic. A potato chip flat side with weight transfer for easy casting would be awesome. I'm not aware of anything, except maybe some hard-to-find and expensive Japanese baits.
  18. I think Shawn was doing custom molds for $150, but that was to little in my opinion. I'm guessing $200? The market for really big football heeads is pretty limited. I know some guys use them on Amistad when the fish are really deep. You may not sell too many.
  19. Lakeland Inc. carries them.
  20. I have been using knock-off sticks the last two years and doing extremely well, but the actual Flick Shake worm is special, as is the price. You can hardly throw them without wincing as they get slung off the hook. I can't believe someone out there hasn't jumped on this and produced a less costly version. The fact that they are imported from Japan and the weak dollar compared to the yen doesn't help the price. The combo of the bait and head is the real deal and it is going to be around for a long time. I think it is going to be a lot like the senko and the super fluke. I have a friend who has caught 27 different species of fish all on the flick shake worm, which include many saltwater fish (redfish and flounder). He also had a trip to a public Lake X (I can't reveal the name or he'd kill me) where he caught 6 fish over 10 pounds and 5 over 9, over a two week period. This is a small public lake taht gets a lot of fishing pressure, not a Bill Dance pond. Let me add, that this guy is not a BS'r. They tried all kinds of other baits, but the Flike Shake 5.8 produced all the big ones. It's like magic.
  21. There is a guy on the Bass Boat Central page that sells them for a slight mark-up. It's either under personal or sponsor for sale. Other than that they are only sold at Academy stores. Go to the Academy Sports and Outdoors page and you can see the store locations. As I said they are an awesome bait. IMO the squarebill series (CRS and CRM) are just as good as Lucky Craft.
  22. No it's nothing like a bent senko. Take a close look at the Flick Shake worm. The worm is flattened on the ends, as well as having the bend. A Senko works well for this technique, but the 5.8 Flick Shake is an excellent bait.
  23. Does anyone make a Flick Shake worm knock-off? The originals are crazy expensive at about seventy five cents per worm. Del-Mart has a mold, but I've never seen any for sale other than the originals from Jackall. Fish big and small routinely come to the surface and throw these off the hook. It is nothing to go through two or three packs in a day.
  24. I think the CRS H2O Express from Academy is an exact copy of the LC RC1.5, but it has a rattle. The H2O series are awesome baits for $3.79. If you need a clear one the ghost minnow can be easily stripped. Steve
  25. I also ordered from this guy and never received anything. Luckily I never sent him any money. I'll never do business with him again. He makes great molds (from what I have seen) but I think he must have some serious problems. I'd like ti have some of his standard molds, but it isn't worth the aggravation.
