  1. well if you spell it "roll" you will get more hits. Vodkaman did a huge study on the stability of crankbaits. Search for Death roll and it should come up. If you can't get it I will link you to it tomorrow. Its on my work pc.
  2. from Hackleburg Al. Now in Tupelo.
  3. Well I stopped by today and the ladies were on break. The owner's name is Dan and he is going to give me a tour of the plant next week. I got 3 free poppers today. They are very nice people there. The lady that gave me the poppers said they were made in plastisol (sp) molds. I will see more next week I hope.
  4. I don't know her name, I figured out she had a head after I sat down and thought about it a while. While the main lady was showing me around she was putting a bunch of scum frogs in my hand one was a new one that wasn't out yet. I thought I was going to keep all of them but she got them and said I could have one if I wanted one. I had to pick the one that I use on Columbus lake. I think that is how he got started. The frogs he makes are perfect for the local lakes because they matt up in the summer. I throw a Ribbet alot there and didn't use a scum frog till I got the free one that looks like a ribbet.
  5. I'll do what I can. I don't know about pics in his shop but I bet I can get a tour and report back. It will be sometime next week though. Its tough to get out of the office anymore. I'll do my best, post a question you guys want answered, I know hardbaits. I don't know what you guys need for the plastics.
  6. Of the mfg. process or the blond? I think if I go back one more time I will need to repent! Its a small process, I could do all of it at my house. Girl or Scum Frogs!
  7. I wish I knew you guys were looking how to make them. I was in there plant a couple of weeks ago. Southern lure Co. is in Columbus Ms. right beside the place I get lunch. There is a sign that says enter through back and I went in and I was in the middle of their shop. I walked around and talked to them for a while. It is 6 ladies that assemble and make them right there. I got a freebe that came right off the assembly table. One solid fact is there is one lady in there that is so hot I'm supprised she don't melt the plastic. I'll try to go back and take notes but it didn't take long for the other ones to see I couldn't quit looking at the little blond. Sorry guys, priorities come first.
  8. he is running a site called fish carvers underground. A few guys from this board is there too.

No, they get out. Hamilton, Ohio became a town because that is as far as you can drive from Hazzard Ky, on a tank of gas. Kentucky isn't all bad, there are some HUGE deer in those hills. If you get past the Deliverance thing the hunting is good.

    Sexy Shad

No kidding, I tried it in my VCR and it was all fuzzy.
  12. I saw the exact same letter on another site. I don't remember what exactly he was trying to purchase but it was the exact same letter. It has to be a fraud of some sort but I don't know how it would work. Glad you caught it so you didn't have to give first hand experiance on how it works.

Rookie, what is your e-bay site listed under? It seems like everyone that can repaint or make a bait is trying to sell it on ebay.
  14. That is probably the most important quote on this thread. I'm not trying to produce baits for bulk sale. I'm just quick when I do stuff, (just ask my wife). I take my time when I work because when I go fast I screw up. I also have a 3 year old that likes to be wherever I am so I do tend to be efficient so she can have some daddy time since I do work alot out of the house. I just have fun and make baits. Last night I took two baits that I had already base coated and just experimented with colors. I took a bait that I make that had a very good paint finish on it and added some color to a different area that made the lure brighter and hopefully more visible. ( A tip from a previous thread). I had a blast doing it, had to call my club and brother to tell them they should surrender all tournament money to me now and they should accept 2nd place. The total paint process was 20 minutes and included me finding out someone took my rags out of my shop and having to go find the.
  15. I do remember your dive bill punch now. I have been working on a design to use with the 3-4 different bills I use. Looks like another deerstand project. I have written down some pretty good stuff while sitting in the top of a tree waiting. the bill alignment jig is something I'm glad I saw. I might be able to expand on that for my needs. We need to get Vodkaman on that, he is the engineer.
  16. Preach on! I spent the winter making my jigs and templates so I can make a perfect bait more efficiently. I didn't tell that out of the 90 minutes of actual working time I let everything dry over night so that is why I make 8 at a time also. In 4 days I will have 8-10 pieces of fishing equipment. Hazmail, please PM me a method for a lip aligning jig and a lip punch. Those two elements are all I need to be consistent. That is why I hate to put in dive bills. It is the biggest source of frustration for me. I stole my center marking jig idea from sheet metal installers. I can find center of a 1/2" piece of material as simple as setting it on it and scribing a line. I wish I could draw it for you guys but it kinda looks like the rectangle shaped letter openers. BTW, I do drink alot of coffee and can't sit still very long. I like my coffee like I like my women. Ground up and in the freezer. Just kidding. Doug
  17. BJ, what kind of crankbait are you holding in your aivtar?
  18. That is the time for one like I have in my Avitar. I have a standard template and notes for everything. I'm not too smart so I write down every detail if it is good or bad. I have a die cut template for two patterns that I make the most. They are for 5-6 feet and a 10-12 foot diver. I have a template for exact weight placements and all hanger/line tie placements. If I forget, I have a laminated sheet that has all dimensions and measurements on it for a cheat sheet. A coffin bill takes me a little longer because putting the line tie in the dive bill is aggervating to me to get correct. The crankbait that I use for less than 18" is the same shape as the one in my avitar but I have jigs and templates for the correct dive bill and cutting angles. Doug
  19. Not counting drying times this is pretty close if I was to just do a single lure. I usually do 8 at a time because that fills up my drying wheel. 1) draw pattern, cut with scroll saw, mark and drill holes for line ties and hook hangers, cut lip slot, rough shape on sander. 15 min tops 2) finish detail sanding. 10 min 3) epoxy ballast and hook hangers. Top off ballast hole with wood putty. 10 min Let dry over night usually. 4) prime wood putty 2 min. let dry 5) base coat paint. 10 min at most dry with hair dryer. 6) airbrush whatever pattern, glitter if needed and hair dry set the paint. 20 min 7) set dive bill. 10 min total time mostly prep to get right. 8 ) epoxy or dicknites lure coat. and attach to wheel. 15-20 tops. total time for one fishing lure = 97 minutes not including drying times.
  20. Its hard to tell from the video how deep it goes. It is a surface plug like the smirkplug that was mentioned with the prop on the front. That bait would be tough to beat when the bass are busting up shad schools if it stays near the surface. Great action BTW, I doubt that will find your "box of shame" you refer to.
  21. I voted for Etch but I want to adopt the one in the brown two piece holding the fish on p. 3.
  22. We were on the same page there Dean. That was the first thing I thought of, I think we need to get off the lake for a while. Vodkaman has just created my fantasy bait!
  23. You've been fishing in a swimming pool?
  24. I have some of the early Bagleys Baitfish series baits in Bluegill and crappie. I use them every once in a while still just to see if I can actually catch a fish with them. In 25 years those hooks have never stuck anything. I have won money in 2 tournaments with the non natural looking crankbait in my Avitar. It did meet a demise last weekend however, I caught a trot line and couldn't get it back. Trot line fisherman should be stripped and beaten! In my opinion, which is only that, the action will get the attention while the color makes it easier to find.
  25. I use a template that insures I drill my hole in perfect center as long as I'm not in a hurry and being sloppy. Knock on wood, I have not had a twisted line tie or hook hanger pull out. When I make a bait, I will generally pick one out of the litter to test/ abuse to see the tolerances. If I hook a bass that will rip my bait apart, my livewell won't hold it anyhow.
