I have poured 1,000's of Poisontail heads with ECL3886BP hooks. These heads are super stable. I think more than the herring head. I think you will like the results of your goals. You just cant "Over Blade" the baits. There will be a blade size to jig weight ratio that will need to be figured out. You wont be able to run a #4 willow on the 1/8 oz head etc.

This is the guy you want to talk to about modifying Do-It molds. I doubt he owns one that isn't modified in some way.

    Most likely... :P

I know you have them on speed dial for hooks. Tell them to make me a 29 degree straight eye hook in .052 -.055 with a limerick bend in black nickel (I will give them the exact specs).

And Allen used to think I bought a lot of hooks LOL... I only buy a few 1000 at a time.

Can one of your boys Valentín and François at VMC make them for me.

From what I have heard hook manufacturers usually require a minimum number of custom hooks be ordered / purchased such as 10,000 . For most people it just isn't feasible .

Just purchased 56k hooks last week so I am fine if I have to buy 10k of them.

As mentioned, heat the unpainted jigs in bulk in a toaster oven. Have a pail of water on the floor or bench next to your work area. As soon as you dip the jig in the powder drop into the pail of water to instantly cure the paint. Once they're all painted retrieve the painted jigs from their water bath and hang them to cure in your oven. The water bath is faster than trying to hang them when they're still warm and "wet".

Won't they cool down to fast to paint? Right now I am using a heat gun then throwing them into a bowl of water. After the bowl is full I inspect, punch out powder from the eyes if necessary then bake. I can get 78 Ned heads into my toaster oven at once so I am buying a second one to help.

  7. I know about 5 people that make spincast molds and they are all too busy with their own stuff. Maybe in a couple of months I can help you out but I just got my setup so I am learning how to make the molds. Making a mold is easy but getting them to work correctly is a pain.

Have you tried Cast Industries or Tight Line Angler?

Found some videos and looks like Smooth On Mold max 60 would work well but is a little tough to find and shipping from a few places that had it was as much as the product. It is kind of designed for tin / pewter hobbies by the looks of it

Alumalite has amazing mold putty which they actually have a video of pouring lead into so maybe that is the way to go for a simple mold, but would defiantly be limited to a top pour probably.

I tried modeling clay and could not get it to work right. Years ago I carved a spinnerbait head out of wood, cleared it then made a 2 piece silicone mold. That mold I used to pour some Alumilite resin in because it would handle vulcanization. Never had a lead head made because I decided on something else.

This winter I will be making a spinnerbait head from a small JDM crankbait as the base for the body. Busy trying to learn spincasting right now so I don't have time to mess with it.

Man, are those nice. 20 at a time.....

Made another Ned head mold yesterday and was able to get 33 cavities in a 9" mold.  With this machine I can pour more heads in 5 minutes than an hour of hand pouring.

What's the ratio of sprue to heads?  Looks like there would be a lot of lead left in the mold.  I think it's a cool setup, just a curiosity question.

Here is what the tube heads look like coming out of the mold. Since the sprues are so small the heads either just fall off or the twist off very easy.

Next time I cast I will post a picture of what it looks like.  Every time you cast you end up with a wheel that looks like a bicycle crank. The heads break off with minimal twisting and you then just throw the bicycle lead crank back into the pot.
