  1. Hotrod, I use a 12 year old sears (10 gal). I cut the pressure to 40 at the tank and then to as low as 3 at my brushes. I use badger brushes (100 and 150). I do birds and fish also and I have no problems. Carver Guy
  2. Seems like the easiest way on the gills would be a wood burner. You can go to www.colwood.com to take a look at the available tips. I use this method when carving miniature fish also.
  3. I've looked at a lot of sites and catalogs. www.dixieart.com seems to be the best to me. As far as research, there are a lot of art sites that offer good help. The one I use most is Wet Canvas. hope this helps. Carver Guy
  4. Go to www.dixieart.com. They have a lot of choices.
  5. Don' know the answer but I am certainly interested. Especially older ones.
  6. Sorry, Psych should have been Paasch. Carver Guy
  7. I don't do very many lures, and I am new here. I do a lot of fish and birds using Liquitex and Jensen for fish. I seal with Krylon. On birds I use Jensen. My airbrushes are Badger. For detail (ie. trout spots, feather detail, etc.) I can go down to 2 lbs. I have never tried Createx, but I do use some Polytranspar and Lifetone, and can still get good results at 3-4 lbs.. I Don't use my Psych because I have never been able to get it adjusted right. My compressor is a Sears with a 20 lb tank that I use in my garage. My studio has an additional regulator and filter so I can cut the Sears down to 40 and then cut my airbrush to 25 and below which is what I normally use. Even Guess is done at 25. As the guys indicated, it's practice and experiment until you get comfortable. Carver Guy
  8. Sorry to be so long in answering, but I just joined. I am a carver doing birds and fish. I use badgers. I use about three or four at a time (from Dixie Art). I've used Paasche and others and they are on the shelf. I would also like the Iwata....... SOON. Carver Guy
  9. Paul, I use a badger for my fish and bird carving almost exclusively. I, too, use Windex (with ammonia) while painting and after form cleaning. Also after each project I soak the metal pieces in lacquer thinner for 30 - 40 minutes before I put it back together. I use the 150 and a couple 100's. A good supply of pipe cleaners and Q-tips is also good to have handy. Carver Guy

New kid.....Joe Perdue, Carver Guy. Currently I am an insurance agent and financial services provider in Southern Calif. I'm an avid woodcarver and fisher person. In about a year I will be retiring to Oklahoma and want to be able to make my own lures, since I will be within an hour of many, many fishing spots.
