Great looking jigs. Love the red/black color combination.
  2. Thanks Pigdestroyer, I'll give the "levels" feature a try. I wasn't familiar with the tool. The camera you have is a far cry better than the one I'm using but what I have is the best I can do for now. Many thanks!
  3. Pigdestroyer, I've attached a couple of photographs of my "photo studio", a term I use lightly. I use the two small lights that came with the kit but also use an additional "five lamps". These I purchased at Home Depot and put n:vision, 100W daylight bulbs in them. I think these are similar to the GE bulbs you use. I use Photoshop Elements to crop and add text to my images. Your images are extremely crisp and almost devoid of shadows. How did you manage this? What camera do you use? If you or any others reading this thread visit my web site, Bass Fishing, Rods, Reels, Lures, Rigs, Techniques, and Tips To Catch Bass and go to the following pages you will see examples of some of my latest images, where I've changed to a blue background: http://bassfishingandcatching.com/fishing-swimbaits or http://bassfishingandcatching.com/tube-baits. I will appreciate any suggestions on how to improve my images or those of other members who take photos of their lures. Many thanks, TNBasser Bass Fishing, Rods, Reels, Lures, Rigs, Techniques, and Tips To Catch Bass
  4. Heck Pigdestroyer, it looks like you've been doing it for years, not days! Great photos of great looking baits! What camera are you using? I make lures for my own use only, not commercially. However, after retiring last year and realizing I couldn't fish "every day" I decided I could "talk about it" every day so started a web site on bass fishing, Bass Fishing, Rods, Reels, Lures, Rigs, Techniques, and Tips To Catch Bass ,into which I incorporate many images I take in my basement. I've set up a small studio, so to speak, using a small purchased studio like you did. I found the two lights that came with the studio far too weak so went to a brand of daylight bubs from n:vision but think I'll give the ones you use from GE a try. If you visit my site you will notice the evolution of my photos from a white background to a blue one. I use Photoshop Elements for adding text etc to the images. I'm far from the quality of your images but hope to get there. I will post photos of my so called studio later today and would appreciate suggestions from any readers of this thread on how I might improve my images. By the way, I just use a small Canon PowerShot A540 camera. Many thanks

    two new crankbaits

Very nice! The bare wood is beautiful. I would hate to actually put that one to use at the risk of messing it up. How did you do the fins? Are they wood as well or some other material?

    new ones

In addition to being great lures - they're "works of art"!! Beautiful!!
  7. Thanks Zbass. I'll cut the slots before making my mold as you have. I'll post pictures of my models, molds made from them and baits from the molds, good or bad. This may be a while however. This is a hobby for me and unfortunately my work requires I spend a good bit of tome traveling so I devote time to it when I can.
  8. Zbass, your swimbaits look great. I'm moving toward making some of my own. Just about finished with the basswood carvings from which I'll make molds. However, I've had trouble figuring out how to get the belly "hook slit" in them, which I notice you have in yours. Is this part of your mold? Is it something I would actually cut into my model prior to making my mold? If so, would this not leave the slit to wide, that is, not provide for the lips to close together? Would you share how you accomplished this in yours? If your technique is proprietary I apologize for asking, however, if there is another thread already covering techniques for this I would be grateful to be directed to it. Many thanks,
  9. Great idea Stankdog. I assume the baits still run true with this rig or you wouldn't ge doing it.
  10. Coley, the value to me, a pure novice, is worth every bit of $60. If it was $50, $40 or $30 that's even better. But I'll pay $60.
  11. Resin molds, what about resin models? Has anyone done this? I've just about finished carving several swimbaits out of basswood and intend to use them in making two piece silicone molds. These silicone molds will be used to produce resin models (prototypes if you will) that will be provided to aluminum mold makers. As I move through this process, success or fail, I'll take photos to share with the members. I've not really thought this through so there may be some caveats of which I'm not aware. Any suggetsions or advice based on your personal experience?
  12. I think Delw has several pertinent points both positive and negative which should be taken with serious consideration. However, I am more than willing to support the site with a fee. I am not in the tackle business (medical products distribution is my business) but am passionate about fishing. The creation of my own designs is something that has naturally developed as a consquence as I approach retirement. It's fun and extremely rewarding to create something with your hands and I expect quite satisfying to have someone find that creation worthy of purchasing. So, my newfound hobby may also provide me an opportunity to also help fund my creative juices in retirement. Many who visit the site have been in the business or hobby for years and have much to offer the site. I learn something each time I visit TU. I'm strictly a beginner and as of yet have little to contribute. As I progress and experience successes and failures I too will have something to contribute that may be of interest to others who visit the site. For the reasons stated it is only right that I and others like me be willing to offer financial assitance to TU through some fee structure. The amount will ultimately be determined by what the "market will bare", which of course will be determined by the real and percieved value the site offers its members vs competitive sites available. I have found TU to be a great site and look forward to enjoying it in the future, with or without a fee.
  13. I have completed carving several wood prototypes from Basswood which I intend to use for producing RTV molds. What is the best product to use (varnish, shellac, etc) to seal these prototypes so there are no problems in making the mold?
  14. Thanks for the advice but I must plead ignorance. How would a ceramic scraper work for this? This following is my intended process. Tell me if you think I'm going about it the wrong way or using the wrong materials. 1) Make models out of Skulpy or similar material. This I have done. 2) Harden the models in an oven 3) Make a mold from the model out of silicone rubber currently from Micro-Mark. 4) Use that mold to make my soft plastic baits Eventually I would like to have aluminum molds made such as those you manufacture. But for now I've got to get this process down. Is POP a better medium at this stage in your opinion? Thanks
  15. I'm new to this great site and have just begun to try and create my own soft baits. It's really more of a hobby that I look forward to engaging in more and more as I approach retirement. Fishing is my passion but I must say that since finding this site I've begun to have almost as much enjoyment out of "creating" baits as in using them on the lake. I've begun to create my own "models" of bait fish, lizards etc from which to create soft plastic baits. I create the models out of Sculpy etc then bake them and use the model to create the mold. I'm sure the fish don't really care but my artistic inclination drives me to make them as realistic as possible. However, I am stumped on how others are able to put a detailed scale pattern on baits. Think Matt Lures for example, one company which does a great job with this. Can anyone help me with this? Many thanks!
