  1. Thanks guys. I'll think it over. Don't think floating is what I want. I'm looking for something the fish don't see often. So if the bait doesn't float well, all the better. In fact, many guys around here use old DD22s that have cracks, so the bait sinks and they get an extra few feet out of'em. Maybe I can get it down to 10 and then use some 10lb. braid to get the extra few feet. That's a concept I've been wanting to try for a while. Know anybody who makes something this size and depth I could buy the unpainted bodies from? Thanks for the replies. Happy holidays everybody.
  2. I've been getting ready to start my own wood cranks. I want in particular to build deeper models first. The whole goal is to get a small non-rattle bait down where most people fish a DD22 or other rattling bait. I've decided to use the pre made balsa bodies from Janns, along with their circuit board lips. I plan on using the 2.25'" size. I'll probably get into the bigger baits later, but I want to get this one first. What is the best lip angle to get a small bait like this down to 15ft? I plan on using 10lb. mono here. Also, where would I attach the line eye on the lip once its glued in? Seems fairly straight forward on the poly lips with the hardware premade, but how do I it with the circuit board? Thanks and happy Thanksgiving.
  3. Red Belly Grass Craw I don't have a gun, so I use Krylon for now. These are the colors I use for the recipe; Flat White base coat Red belly (I typically use a medium shade of red) Hosta Leaf green color for the sides and back Medium Brown lightly sprayed over back (blend into sides) Another light layer of Hosta Leaf over the brown (I alternately spray the green and brown until I get the right shade of green brown) Flat Black very lightly sprayed on the back. This gives the bait a bit of darker speckling. This is good color for the summer months and early fall if the fish are around grass and not eating baitfish. The sides and back blend into the grass well, but the belly flashes around on the retrieve and gets attention.I usually put a pair of red 3-D eyes on the back of the bait, near the tail. You can also add vertical lines to the body to imitate the craw body plates if you want a more exact replica of a craw.
  4. Hello to everyone on the board. Been a while since I last posted. As the fall cranking season has started up, I've realized my selection of wooden cranks ihas dwindled drastically over the years, and I don't have the baits I'm need now. The Rapala DTs are good, but there are applications where a bait with a less wobble is very useful. I love the old Bagley DB3s, but the problem is finding them nowadays. They're always on Ebay, but its such a pain to get'em that way. Would anybody be willing to make wooden cranks for purchase? I'm looking for just the blank body, no paint on 'em. Just the lip, and hook hangers. I send them out for custom jobs from friends or do some of my own stuff. I'm really looking for both a model that deeps to about 15', and a shallow bait that runs something like 2 or 3'. If anybody has offers, PM or email me. It would greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  5. Hi. I'm looking for someone who pours. I can't pour due to family helath problems, so I'm limiting to powder painting. I've made a similiar post a long time ago. I'm looking for weedless football heads in 1/2, 3/4, and 1 oz sizes. Gamakatsu fine wire hooks if possible. I be buying in bulk quanities. Please PM me.
  6. Won'ty ahve the same action as the original Paca Craw. Netbait make'em with a hollow body and a different way to make the claws, so it floats weel and has great action. It would very toguh to repilcate that in a single or even a double mold.
  7. Wazup everybody. Wanted to ask a question. Was looking at Stamina's online catalog earlier and saw they offer quik change clevises. One problem with building spinnerbaits it that you can't change the front blade. So, if you're fishing a DW and really killin'em, and then lose that bait, you usually only have a completely different blade pair left in your box. I was thinking; wouldn't it be easier to make the clevis a quick change, and then change out the front blade out on the water as needed? Then you need to have 10 similiar colored spinnerbaits with different blade combos, you could just carry a box of blades with you on the water and then modify the bait to the conditions? Think they would work for SBs, say in the medium size?
  8. Thanks guys. I'm looking for all sizes from 3/8-1oz. I use the 3/8 & 1/2 for most of my jig stuff, but the 3/4 and 1 oz. are my favorites for flipping heavy stuff in the summer with.
  9. I posted something like this on spinnerbaits on the old board but it was lost. I would like to ask a question for those who pour. Would anybody be willing to custom pour the Poison Tail without the weedguard? You see, I can't pour myself for health issues with my family. Powder painting, fine, but not pouring. I can't seem to find this jig commercially anywhere already poured. The weedguard gets in the way when I powder paint and makes curing the baits so much harder. I just cure them and glue the weedguards on.Is there anybody out there who could pour them like this for me? If so, please send me a PM or email.
  10. If you have a Harbor Freight near you, go there. They sell good safety masks. Buy a double cartridge safety ,ask, you know the types they use for painting fumes? About $15. As long as you're not sanding the lead and getting airborne particles, you're good. You'll be in a whole lot more trouble if you inhale lead fumes than if you touch it bit too much! Like everybody said, wash your hands very well.
  11. Can you modify the old Citica reels from Shimano? Now that they've replaced the old Citica w/ the new version, the old ones are going for like $50 at some places. I've heard if you take out the bushings in the reel and replace them with bearings, they will cast and retrieve just as good as a Curado. Is this possible? If so, how do I remove the bushingd and what type of bearing should I use (ABEC-7s)?
  12. Hi, I'm a new member. I wanted to ask a question. I love to build my own tackle. But I can't pour lead my own due to health reasons in my family. So I was looking to buy unpainted spinnerbait bodies. I found the type I was looking for on Janns Netcraft but they only offer it up to 3/8 oz. Which is fine but I also need baits in 1/2 & 3/4 oz. The sytle is a fish shaped head w/ a small ridge on top and a wide underslung belly and it has parts for stick-on eyes. Any place where I could could get what I'm looking for?
