  1. I use the Alumilite Amazing White with absolutely no problems. The baits with a lot of microballoons are fairly easy to break the first 24 hours but after a couple of days of curing they become bulletproof and you can not break them by hand.
  2. Swimbaits are one of my go to lures in cold weather. I have caught fish when you had to keep busting the ice out of your guides on every cast. That being said I am fishing for northern strain largemouth and smallies. You want to make a swimbait that will sit on its own hooks at rest without falling over. The least amount of action your swimbait has in cold water the better. I simply cast it out and let it sink to the bottom then very gently pull it a couple of feet and then let it sit back on the bottom, eat a snack, and then repeat. Works very well with soft and hard swimbaits.
  3. I am assuming he wants the advantage of UV which you don't get from Etex.
  4. Some of his blanks run and some don't.
  5. Use a flat white paint instead of a glossy white paint for your primer and your paint will stick better. You can also scuff up your primer to knock down the gloss. I use 600 grit sandpaper.
  6. I carve all my mold masters out of basswood. The truth is there isn't much carving for me other than the details. I use a bandsaw to get the general shape and then I use sanders to get the shape even closer to what I want. I will then hand sand the bait to its final shape. I then carve all my details out with a utility knife. It does not take long at all, in fact, it takes longer to draw the design and get the dimensions the way you want on paper than it does to make the actual bait. I just use the wood baits as mold masters to pour resin baits. I make a few swimbaits out of PVC and my method is very much the same. However you choose to do it, give it a try. It will take a couple of baits to get the hang of it and then you will be building all of your baits instead of buying them.
  7. I test all mine in my tank the same way you are doing it.
  8. The baby brush hog is 4" this one is 4.5" http://www.basstackle.com/BT_Flippin_Hog_p/547-kj-1.htm This is the one that I use http://www.btsmolds.com/creatures/515-creature-1
  9. No. I tried many sink rates on the 4 piece to get the wobble. I believe the problem is the tail piece, as it is held together by one hinge which makes it uncontrollable and therefore negates the wobble and it is unweighted.
  10. I posted pictures of some of the baits that I make wobble. I also make all my 2 and 3 piece fast sink swimbaits wobble but I am not able to get the 4 piece swimbaits to wobble. http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/media/gallery/category_8/gallery_16753_8_191927.jpg http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/media/gallery/category_8/gallery_16753_8_59362.jpg (the 3 piece baits wobble the 4 piece do not) http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/media/gallery/category_8/gallery_16753_8_341362.jpg http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/media/gallery/category_8/gallery_16753_8_171229.jpg http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/media/gallery/category_8/gallery_16753_8_398982.jpg http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/media/gallery/category_8/gallery_16753_8_353825.jpg
  11. I make all of my glide baits wobble and it is fairly easy to do. 1) Make sure that the top of your bait is wider than the bottom of your bait. The more bouyant your material the less wider the back has to be. If you are doing large baits then you do not have to do this because all of the bouyancy is at the top but if you still make it a bit wider at the top it will wobble even more. 2) Make sure all of your weight is below the center line and as low in the bait as you can get it. 3) The more horizontal the bait sinks the better the wobble. You are making the bouyancy at the top of the bait fight against the weight in the bottom of the bait. These simple rules allow me to make all my glide baits wobble.
  12. Here is some info. http://makewoodenlures.com/crankbait-diving-lips.pdf
  13. Most of my tools are bench top for space issues but I am a firm believer in having the right tool for each task as this makes things quicker, more efficient, and safer. The standard tools that I use on a regular basis are: table saw, compound miter saw, planer, drill press, band saw, router, and a belt/disc bench mount sander. I also have several tools that I made to do specific things for me. The last couple of years I have had a small space to do my hobby in and I take most of the dust making tools outside to do my work. I do have a large delta air filtration system but it still doesn't remove the dust and I have to have a very clean shop.
  14. Just get a free consultation appointment set up. I know dealing with a lawyer is scary but it is just a consultation and can give you peace of mind with what options you have. A free consultation is not billable and simply asking that before you make the appointment will give you peace of mind.
  15. Nathan is correct but there is a third way to look at it. You have the business side, the individual side (civil), and the criminal side and all three of these could cross paths. The only way to know all of your options is to go see a lawyer. The lawyer may tell you to just send a letter or he/she might tell you that you have a case or he/she might involve other parties that this individual is wronging. The first consultation will most likely be free, so you have nothing to loose by going and talking to one. Unless you have a lawyer that you have dealt with then I would talk to a couple. Good luck.
  16. There isn't a case for anyone copying your work. However, you are a legal business and you do have rights and you should exercise them. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Go see a lawyer.
  17. I disagree with some on here and think that you have a legal case but the only way to know for sure is to sit down and talk to a lawyer. When you do let us know what happens, if you can.
  18. I would go sit down and talk to a lawyer. The initial consultation is free with most lawyers. This is something that I would not let slide regardless of how old he is. If you work hard to build your reputation and product then you should work hard to defend it. Good luck and keep us posted.
  19. If you can prove that his customers are buying the product because they think it is done by you then you have a very strong legal case and can receive some if not all of the profits he has made as well as the cost to repair your good name if he has tarnished it in any way. Simply tell a lawyer that you will not pay anything but anything he gets he can keep. You would be surprised how hard they will work for you when you do that. Secondly if he is not legit then a court case gets even easier. Being copied is part of the game but if someone sold products using my name then a court case is immenent.
  20. This is nothing new but figured I would post. The video is good stuff. Notice it is very cold and the product is still very fluid and not thick.

    More baby Murray cod

Great job. I love the eyes.
  22. Thanks jonister. I make the hinges with wire that I bend.
  23. These baits are 4.25" long with the tail and weigh 1.2 ounces. They have a very specific action just for Lake Erie. A friend of mine challenged me to make these baits and I think he will be happy.
  24. Congrats on your first crank. I love that you didn't stay traditional. I hope you have a blast fishing it. Great job.
