  1. a lot of it depends on the hull. Fastest i've driven a bass boat was a legend LE-21 with a 250 merc racing 2-stroke - @82 mph on the GPS. Now i call that "scary fast" but at the same time - the LE-21 is a giant hull and i never felt unsafe - even when running through chop or boat wakes at 75+mph.
  2. 65mph is a respectable speed around here. you'll beat half the field at most tournies. that said, i'm turning my 135 opti into a 175, so i'm hoping for 70mph by end of the summer
  3. i use them on spiral wraps and spinning setups. I don't see why you would need more guides for a conventional casting rod, i doubt you'd be able to keep the line off the blank anyway. Primary advantages i've found is the cost vs. overall weight savings. Very inexpensive way to keep things light - without breaking the bank on something like recoils. I've not noticed any degradation in casting distance or ability either. Only thing to watch out for is passing knots... i use 3mm and i can't pass a 12lb uni-uni knot - which is fine for me, but some people use leaders so its a good question to ask. The micro tips were a bit on the week side, but i see there are now some new braced tip-tops from Amtak and Fuji - i would go with those.
  4. i feel you get very little for you money - mostly just a security blanket with a big price tag. And i wasn't comparing windows to mac os. OSx is based of bsd unix - it runs on x86 architecture... linux, windows, and other unix OSx can all run on a mac - in fact, when windows vista first came out - the machine that had the highest benchmarks was an APPLE. My point is - they sell you a bill of goods that a Mac and a PC are sooo different... they are not, its a different OS and that's pretty much it. Its an OS with gaping security flaws that ARE patched (just liked windows) - i'm talking Remote Code Execution, trojans, etc.... there's not that many of them because macs are traditionally personal computers (with less than a 10% market share no less) and are rarely ever used in the business environment - so in other words - a weak target Are they a bad computer? NO Is OSx better or worse than Windows? Linux? in some cases yes, in some no... Are they disgustinglinly overpriced? Yes! Saying they are a safer machine is analogous to thinking your Ford Pinto is safe because you never leave the driveway with it. Give it time and you will see the mother of all virus's strike the Mac community. Its a sitting duck really - I'm sure the savy users are secure but what about all those people like you just mentioned - the avg user - who turns it on and runs...they just assume based on the marketing that nothing could possibly happen to their machine. The smoke & mirrors approach to security that apple's marketing campaign has taken will bite them in A** big time one day.
  5. they're cheaper because you don't have to pay for apple's marketing campaign:lol: all that stuff you hear on tv is bs - apple IS a PC... intel chipsets, unix based OS... there's really no difference other than hype.
  6. as a software developer who deals with a lot of web applications - it would make my life much easier if no one ever used IE:lol: microsoft has their own ideas of how html, javascript and other open web-content languages should be interpreted - while the other major browsers like Safari, FireFox and google's new Chrome all conform to the W3C standards:flame:
  7. sorry - i didn't intend to direct it at your - simply using it as an example is all. i just don't see a big deal if someone puts something goofy in there. Like you said, looking into your posts or asking you and I can get all the info i care to know.
  8. having "canada" for a location isn't really much more helpful than "down the street" or "at your mom's house". I've had silly things in my location (not necessarily here) before... its more or less my sense of humor at work rather than trying to hide. I'm sure most of these folks are just having a little fun and if you're very concerned about where they hail from, simply asking them would probably yield the answer in short order.
  9. I think CTS is out of New Zealand. Its all the same right?
  10. Most blanks in that size/action will be pretty light weight. Batson Rainshadow ISB series in Rx7 or RX8+, St. croix SCIII or SCIV, G Loomis, CTS. Now, whether or not you can get them in Australia - i have no idea - I'd start by finding rod building suppliers there and seeing what they have available. I'm sure that most of the US based guys would ship to you as long as you covered the costs - which i'm guessing won't be cheep! i'd start here: The RodWorks - Producers of Fine Fishing Rods - Home looks like they carry Loomis and CTS among others, i would give them a call and see if they can recommend something from their lineup. Looking at the site more - i see they do carry ALPS components which would lead me to believe they might be able to get Batson blanks as well.
  11. Joel - find a paintball pro-shop in your area. If those plates are aluminum, they should be able to anodize them for you. I used to have parts for my guns done up all the time when i used to play. They can do some SWEET stuff too - camo, splash effects, fades..... check it out.
  12. i tried using google checkout and they had updated the site and the orders weren't making it through. A quick email and everything got sorted out. i would try giving them a call again
  13. i've caught 4lb bass with 6"+ gills sticking out of thier throats.... needless to say i will have a 4" bluegill swimbait on the line season fo'show.
  14. Jim - if you're interested in trying some new things. We troll our rivers here in michigan with a lot of different plugs, one of the most noteworthy is Storm's Hot n' Tot. They work great on our Coho and Chinook (lake run) as well as steelhead (lake run rainbow trout). If you're interested in having some painted in your favorite patterns, anyone here in the US shouldn't have trouble finding them to paint as they are mass-produced by Storm (Rapala) and widely available. The originals from before Storm was bought by rapala were of course better than the new stuff Also look into Storm Thundersticks and Wiggle Warts. Good luck!
