  1. wow, can she cook too ? or does she use the smoke alarm as the timer..
  2. when you apply a clearcoat wont it sorta take the raised scale effect away ?
  3. There is another awesome wood to wood glue called Titebond......I make wainscoating at work and we glue all of our wood panels together with it. I've personally hit quite a few panels on the edge of a table to see where it breaks and its never broke in the seam where its glued..this stuff is awesome....
  4. I assume your talking about the actual cuts and not the eye hooks............I do cut both sections at a 45 first but when im done with the 2 cuts, I take the nose section and buzz of just a bit off the back so the angle isnt that deep........I did do a few where that front joint was a 45 and the middle section didnt seem to have as much action....
  5. honestly , having the right tools makes it real easy...the hardest part for me is drilling the holes for the 2 pins and makin them straight................once i run a piece through a planer and its the correct thickness, I have a blank made out of a piece of 1/8th skin.........I simply trace the shape on my piece, cut it out with a bandsaw...wala the shape is made, now all i gott do is get the edges rounded over.........walk over to the table mounted router where I have a round over bit, and run the bait through the router on both sides.......now i have a rounded over shaped bait...probly takes 30 min for that process.............now, the router does leave a few lines, I take some 80 grit sand paper to sand out the lines, once the lines are out I brush over it with some 220.........all thats left is to make the 45 cuts , line up eyescrew holes, and add weight......oh & cut tail slot...
  6. hey jeff I live in lincoln too....
  7. mark,..I had the same problem and it took awhile to figure it out....I did have to thin it a bit but I also had to adjust the amount of paint coming out of the tip...........I have a piece of cardboard right where i spray and i adjust the tip so hardly any paint comes out, then I got real close to the cardboard and practiced writing my name and address and stuff.......after i got that down, thats when I attempted that babybass lure......
  8. dang that trout is huge !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! looks good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. started with cedar.........then tried a few with cherry, then a few with maple, and i just did 2 with oak & ill never use oak again,,, cant sand the grain out of it..................... so far i like the cherry the best...
  10. It was only a few topwater slammer style wake baits........Lookin back they seemed kinda cheezy......Ill make some more when im off this kick..heres a babybass I did today.. 13. no, I just got a few squares of plastic from a company called TAP plastics and merely traced out a design and cut it out on a band saw. super easy thanks spike ill go look!
  14. I looked all over in the gallery and i couldnt see how to post pics there, so i resized them, hopefully they are ok.. heres the floater wakebait
  15. Ive messed up a few clear coats and I just let it dry and took some 80 grit and sanded away, didnt take long at all to get the epoxy off it, then smoothed it out with some 220 and I was mgood to go !!!! dont throw it away !!!
  16. DSV, heres how I cut my slots......first I do make a 1/8 pilot, I dont go very far with that one...then i up size the bit a touch and make the hole a little bigger, now, tilt the bit to one side then tilt it to the other side, you should see the slot forming and its nice and clean and round......take a eyescrew it stick it in the slot to see if you have enough clearance......keep tilting that drill bit untill you get the desired size slot.... good luck .........and you should always drill a pilot hole for the eye screws..just think if you got a bait all sanded and formed and then you screwed in a eyescrew and it split !!!. they wont split if theres already a hole...
  17. ok I was able to test 10 baits and i only had 2 that swam crooked. after lokking at them closely I noticed the center section wasnt even close to being lined up with the front section...... I think im pretty dialed in now....I know what drill bits to use for weight so i dont think i need to water test everyone before paint..............here is a video of one.. rauVtdbMV0A heres a few more pics.. 18. the eye hooks are # 216 straight from home depot, big splitrings & 2/0 treble hooks.....
  19. well i was able to test out my baits and i was honestly amazed on how they swam..........on the very first retrieval i was happy and then i popped it real quick and it snapped around the opposite direction !!!!!!!!!!!! unbelievable........ they ran about 12 to 20 in below the surface.........only bad news is I didnt catch anything on them.........I am so excited I carved out 4 more at work today ...
  20. thanks for the kind words...about 2 weeks prior to this I was staring at a MS slammer and thought, gee these dont look to hard to make...So I bought a dowel at home depot and went for it........ The hardest part was the paint......The first wake bait i painted looked like a x-mas tree and i used a cheap polyurethane for the final clear coat......Then i made a few more and the painting gradually got better and until a friend of mine caught a little 4lbr on my wakebait and it came apart at the eyehooks, it was then i went to the devcon 2ton epoxy.....I made about 10 wakebaits and then a little bell went off in my head when i was staring at a tripletrout........now I cant seem to stop, every piece of wood i see at work I trace something on it !!!!!! prior to the wakebaits I never attempted to make a bait before.........However i do work in a wood shop making wainscoating and wood beams, so I have acess to some nice tools....
  21. on the head section just below the bottom eye hook I drilled a hole towards the nose . started with a small bit but ended with a 5/16 bit...the center section is the same way, the tail section I drilled back towrd the back with a it that was 1 size smaller.....
  22. triple trout ? whats that ..... hee hee
  23. the baits do sink horozontal now, maybe not perfectly horozontal but i think once i start reelin them in they should be ok....... probly wont be able to test them until thursday..
