  1. I raise genetic hackle chickens. You won't find any stock from hatcheries that you will get more than 5 or 6 bucks from the capes and saddles. The colors will be good but the quality and the size of the hackle for tying will be basically non-exsistant. Unless of course you are only tying very large bass and saltwater flies. I don't sell any of my stock but there is a guy on ebay selling some genetic hackle eggs for $50.00/doz. I can't advise on the quality but I can tell you that they will be better than anything you can get from a hatchery. Just as a side note, I have been selling capes and saddles for years and I'm not aware of any special permits you need to get....but you should always check in your local area. I hope this helps.
  2. is the wire bender still for sale?

  3. I have a nice Hagen's wire former. I only made about 20 spinner baits on it and it works great, can do most of your wire forming needs. Just adopted 3 kids so I'm cutting back a little. sells new for 130.00 and 30.00 for the HD kit. Comes with both the former and the heavy duty kit for $110.00 shipped. I can get you pictures if anyone is interested. Thanks! Mark Link to ad for former: http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/wire-forming-tools/043010100001.aspx
  4. Forgot to add the price. The bender new with the extra head is around $160 + shipping. I'll ship it for $120.00.
  5. I have a Hagen wire bender I bought last summer. I have bent maybe 50 wires with it and have both heads. We just adopted a baby so I need to cut back on some of my tackle making, and I could use the extra cash. If you are interested in getting one, this is a great bender, email me at; thehackleguy@gmail.com. thanks. Mark
  6. Thanks for the tips, can I still heat-bond the paint i did yesterday or do I need to re-paint?
  7. How long do you guys let your paint dry between coats? I painted my first lure last night with Createx (sp?) I let each coat dry for an hour or so but on my last coat I had some run a little bit. I'm still happy with the results because it is just for me but I want to figure out how to get it right. Thanks.
  8. TJ, I tried to PM you but for some reason it would not work. Can you send me some instructions on your mod? email: thehackleguy@gmail.com. Thanks! Mark
  9. I have used kevlar in the past and liked it but after switching to GSP I will not tie with kevlar. Having said that eveyone ties a little different, you might want to pick up a spool of both and try them out.
  10. I use GSP (gel spun polypropalene) Not sure on the "polypropalene" part without looking. But this stuff is extrememly strong, holds knots well and does not cut the skirt like some threads will. I use three knots to finish my jigs and have never had one come untied with this stuff and I don't use any glue or anything like that. I don't whip finish them though, my knots are hard to explain, maybe I can make a short video with the camera and try to get someone help me post it.
  11. I wanted to try some in my local lakes because I''m thinking of modifying one of my shad head molds for a wire but I don't want to do that if they don't work well.......
  12. Hey guys, I'm looking for a jig head with spinners under the head like this: Buckeye Lures Su-Spin Blades Just curious if anyone here makes anything like this?
  13. This is a jig I made using Cadman's techniques. As you can see the D2T gives a great finish and it is very hard.
  14. I use Devcon 2 Ton epoxy (D2T) as recommended by Cadman. It works great. Are you hardening your powder paint after application? T.
