I painted some of the Flap Slap KO baits and they sink tail down at a fast rate when I place hooks on the bait. I'm using etex epoxy and tried various hooks with the same sink action. Without hooks the bait slowly floats up. Does anyone have recommendations for a hook setup?
Picture attached shows the bait I'm referring to.
Base coat the lure white and then use a low adhesion tape to cover the eye. I measured pupil and base of the eye and ordered hole punches to match. Then just spray your base color followed by the pupil.
BobP, I think the brush may be the way to go. I'll make an extra mouse to try it on.
Uncle Jay, let me know if you find that book, I'd sure like to check it out. Thanks
I use a small toaster oven in my shop to heat my hooks. I often use oversized hooks in my jig molds and the lead doesn't like to fill the cavity unless the hook is heated. Also make sure that the lead pot has an adequate amount of lead in it and the spout is flowing well.
So far I'm liking the 570BP the best. I poured some the other night and will report back when I fish with them. Fits the mold nicely and the hook as a good feel/finish.
Anyone have any tips on how to achieve the "fur" look on rat/mouse type baits? I've seen some awesome work on these types of baits, but can't find any clues or tips when searching.
Most popular colors I paint for Elite/Flw Level guys would include
1. A basic shad with a black back and gold scales.
2. A form of chart/black or yellow bodied pattern.
3. Bone with either green or brown on the back of the bait depending on the angler.
I will say that most are picky about jerkbait colors. Lots of translucent patterns with specific back and belly colors. Makes sense to me because the fish are looking at the bait so well.
I paint for a few elite series guys and can honestly say that weekend warriors are picker about the colors they throw. The colors I paint for pro guys are some of my worst selling baits because they are run of the mill normal paint schemes.
Any tips on how to make the craw stencil? How are you doing the lines on the back? I'm new to craws and seems to struggle with them. Can't get my sides to look correct.
Can anyone recommend an online store that sells 18 gauge brass wire at a decent price. I'm wanting to make my wire harness out of it for my line through baits, but can't find it. Thanks for the help.
