  14. I've tried powder paint on french blades for inline spinners. Heat the blades with a torch than dip and bake them. Hold the top of the blade with needlenose pliers. Experiment with a few and good luck. quote name='flatsrat76' date='13 April 2010 - 10:21 PM' timestamp='1271215290' post='144305'] I never used createx. I know some guys that airbrush use a white powder coating as a primer. Flatsrat76
  15. I have a book by C. Boyd Pfieffer called Tacklecraft. In the book he shows you how to build POP molds for soft plastics and jigheads. I stole this off of half.com for about 5.75 shipped. I also found a copy at my local library. It was made in the 70's I believe. I know in the books it states exactly what greg mentioned. Molds must be free from all moisture. They will crack or explode. I made dumbell eyes for flies and it worked well I let it set for 2 weeks to dry to be extra careful good luck.
  16. Thanks for the information, I heard of people trying it but I have never myself. I will let you all know how I make out. I just hope when I get the nail polish the cashier doesn't look at me funny.
  17. I was wondering if anyone has ever finished the thread of a jig or fly with black fingernail polish. Here is a picture of my black bucktail. I'd like the thread to shine a little like the head. I always use head cement. I've seen ants and other flies that are very glossy. Anyone with info let me know. I also have made a video of me tying this jig. As soon as I figure out how to edit the video I'll post it on you tube.
  18. I'd try less lead in the pot; this will allow the lead to heat faster and that setting its way to low. I run mine at 9 in the winter. I always pour lead on the sides of do-it molds. It helps heat up your molds faster. It the come out bad take needle nose and dip them back in the pot. Good luck!!!
  19. I purchased an old boyd pfieffer TACKLECRAFTER book off ebay and it has a homemade one in it. He used nails and an old 2 x 4. I myself use a worth hand held. If your gonna produce a lot of spinners. I'd get the worth hand held I think It cost about $10. I may have an extra worth. I can check later if I do. I'll let you know.
  20. I figured I try to pour my 1st plastic lures last night with a little scrap tubes. I made a 2 cavity Plaster mold. I used and old electric 2 burner stove, a butter knife, and a stainless steel pot(too big). I learned that plastic cools fast, when removed from the heat. Hey look at the bright side I got 3 lures I can use to fish with for free from scraps. I think I'll have to get some plastics and coloring and a few tools to get me started. Heres my lures and mold. Also whats the best way to coat a plaster of paris mold? My lures came out with no shine.
  21. thanks guys and big ups for the information bonjon. I gonna give it a try.
