  1. More than classifieds...It could be a place for the public to buy handmade lures and baits from all the small companies and individuals. Similar to ESTY.com, but for fishing only! Just a thought, John Aiden James Lures http://AJLures.com
  2. Our lure's shape is very conducive to dipping. We dip almost every coat, even the pearl and UV. All the excess just drips off the nose. If it won't work dipping, we wont use it. We make too many lures to spray or brush a clear. John
  3. Good info BigFischer! Do you have the TS-100? I don't think they sell that product anymore. What do you think will happen if I try to dip my lures in it without thinning? It says it has a 24hr cure time. That must be if it is really thin? John
  4. I bought a quart, so I will let you guys know how it works. John
  5. This lure was the ticket today!
  6. Spaz the Mouse lands another monster bass. This one was on our size 2 black UV mouse.

  7. Has anyone tried this clear? 1-part, low odor, high gloss, crystal clear, and flexible. Seems to good to be true? http://supermarinepaint.com/clears-revolution-SM-1000C.asp John Aiden James Lures http://AJLures.com
  8. Humbled and Inspired! I will send you a video of mine when it is complete. John
  9. What kind of duplicator do you use? Is it a CNC router? John
  10. Modern pearls are actually just tiny particles of mica that are micro-encapsulated in a shell of titanium oxide. Different thicknesses of this titanium oxide shell reflect light differently, giving a color-change appearence. Chameleon (color shifting) paints are just two different pearls colors together in a specific ratio. The C-Tex pearl paints also have pigment in the paint. John Aiden James Lures http://AJLures.com
  11. What about ABS? Have you ever seen the makerbot? It is basically a 3-axis ABS printer.
  12. I was going to cast two halves and then assemble them to make a hollow lure body.
  13. It seems fairly simple to pour a two part silicone mold and then use casting epoxy to make lure bodies. Has anybody ever tried it? I am curious about the performance and durability of epoxy vs. wood bodies. John Aiden James Lures Also, thanks to everyone who chimed in on the Zara Spook G-Finish thread! I think I've almost got it!
  14. Good Stuff! It makes sense. I actually bought some mica based powder from paintwithpearl.com to mix into my base and clear. I will let you know how they turn out. John
  15. Currently I hand paint the fur on our mouse lure with a fan brush, but I think that I would get a more consistent product using an airbrush and a stencil made from something. What would you guys use? I saw a youtube video of a guy using some sort of bristle to spray through, but I'm not sure what it was. I like the texture and depth that I get from hand painting, but I really want to make the needed transition to an airbrush. Our lures catch fish like crazy, but they don't look nearly as professional as most of your cranks. any suggestions? John Aiden James Lures http://AJLures.com
  16. Very cool article! Thanks for that. I think the color combinations are more important than the colors themselves. I like his analysis of that with the wheel. Also, blue or red may look like black, but it may penetrate furthur or not as far under water. So it 'acts' different than black, on your lure. Colors make a lure 'come alive' to a fish in the way that they reflect light differently similar to the manner that irredescent paints look like they are moving to us. John
  17. Here it is http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/21791-heavy-duty-hardware/ Vodkaman has some nice looking SS eyes that he made! Check out the pictures. John Aiden James Lures http://AJLures.com
  18. Use 1.5" ss eyes from JannsNetcraft or make your own from SS wire and epoxy them in. I will post the thread where this was discussed. John Aiden James Lures http://AJLures.com
  19. So, I have recently acquired a Laser cutter and engraver. This thing will cut or engrave almost any material including SS and glass up to 3/8" thick. It isn't really mine, but nobody uses the machine, and it just sits in my locked office at work. How would you use it for your lures? I don't use bills, stencils, or blades for my baits, but surely there is a way that I can put this really expensive piece of equipment to use. Ideas? John Aiden James Lures http://AJLures.com
  20. OK, I figured it out. If anyone else needs help with this, go to the gallery and to the right of the image, click 'like this image?', then click 'set as avatar.' John Aiden James Lures http://AJLures.com
  21. If you don't want to mess with introducing DA to the mix, heat will thin and level the epoxy and will also get rid of bubbles. Just be careful not to get it too hot! Test this method on something that you can throw away. I would feel bad if I helped you ruin a lure! John Aiden James Lures http://AJLures.com
  22. I have used it, and have never seen it eat through paint. I know that it isn't as durable as 2-part epoxy, though. We have used it for mixing UV reflectant or pearl flake and dipping. John Aiden James Lures http://AJLures.com
  23. I wonder if the black lure and the red lure had the same results? Anytime a red senko is working, I can use a black one with similar results. I've also noticed that with trout spinners. I think black and red both look like blood to them? John
  24. I also tried. Maybe they don't allow custom avatars any longer? John
