  1. I found all the info needed now that I googled blade instead of spoon.
  2. Ok, maybe I should have said blades instead of spoons?
  3. I am working on some custom jigs for saltwater. Mostly fluke and stripers. I have picked up a few things here about spoons but not enough. The three things I need to clear up is resistance, vibration and flash. I would like to know the difference between colorado and willowleaf spoons. I am thinking less resistance with willowleaf. I did read that willow also has less flash. Which has more vibration? What does deep cup colorado spoon add to the action? And also will there be a big difference if the spoon is on a clevis or on a swivel? If anyone knows a link to all these questions and more please point me in the direction or if you feel like typing away for a few it would be much appreciated. Thanks. Keith
  4. 2 ways I have done some are with a stencil, pita though, and using a straw. Bend the straw to close one end then pack it real good with poder and touch the straw to the hot jig. Practice a bit with both of course but the straw has nicer dots. But with the stencil you can get a bit of a fade.
  5. I drilled my spout out a bit to increase flow for large jigs up to 8 oz... Works great but doing smaller jigs can be a pain. Now need a second pot.
  6. I have been toying with the idea also for stripers in salt water. What size wire are you going with?
  7. Glad to here it worked. What size PVC are you using?
  8. The surf guys like to bounce them off the bottom when there is little to no light. the dark jig stands out against the low light sky. I will be using them from my boat with bait strips under the same conditions.
  9. That's a lot of jig to dip at once. I would do one side then the other. I have heard people talk of a long rectangular fluid bed. Maybe that would be a better choice? Either way post up your results, I was thinking of doing some butterfly type jigs myself.
  10. Some experimenting. Let me know what your opinions are please. Powder coat with glitter. I am liking the black/red. Although it looks orange in the pics.
  11. This is the first one tied. I ruined about 15 jigs before I even came close to this and this one is not near perfect. Adding dots with powder is tough. I know bass like this color combo but not sure about the fluke. I hope so. Feel free to critique!!!
  12. Jig looks real good. Going to check that putty out for sure.
  13. No, I put the cap on first. It has wire in it for the eye. I then flatten the pipe on a vise and then fill hoping not to over fill, then crimp the end. It's only my second one and really just for fun. I only go for cod once a year or so.
  14. Thanks cadman , both are saltwater. The top one is for cod and pollock. It's just copper pipe filled with lead. It's about six oz. bucktail is two oz.
  15. Been messing around with glitter. Regular white with fine holographic glitter. Picture does not do justice. The glitter was put on right after the powder so it was embedded into the still soft powder. Was not sure it would survive the oven, but it did.
  16. Made this jig up as a joke as I am going cod fishing any day now for the first time ever. I cut a 1/2 inch electrical conduit pipe at 5 inches. Crimped the end and then pressed the entire piece into an oblong,(oval) shape. Filled with lead and crimped the other end. drilled some holes , sanded and put into the oven for 15 minutes. Had to use the brush method on the entire thing, super glow white with pink back. Tied up a treble with white tail and some flash and then using an old wig that I stole from my daughter I reversed the direction on the treble to get this squid look. All for fun but I think it may catch. Jig weighs in at 10 oz. Also threw in a pic of a fall bass 2 oz bucktail. glow white base , chart., olive and black back all but the white tapping the brush method. red chin is dipped.
  17. I just did a10oz cod jig, all brush , two toned and it turned out great. The key IMO is to heat the jigs in the oven for 15 minutes at 375.
  18. A guy just posted a spoon made out of nickel on another site. He even etched it. It came out pretty good. Not sure where you would get sheet nickel though.
  19. I use tyvek suits. Outside up so the powder sits on it. I do not glue it , just cut a 4inch rind and set it into the base. One day I will post up some pics of my fluid beds. I don't know where the idea came from, I hope it was mine, LOL. But I have posted it on the net possibly here too. Glad it works for you.
  20. Good info here. Those caps are cool. I also drill out the eye after dipping. But I wait till they have cooled. When they are done baking the paint blends in with the inside of the eye so you do not have a sharp edge. This way you can tie direct without having a sharp edge. I am going to get some of those caps though.
  21. Great idea. I will try this in the fall for the big bass and blues.
  22. Thanks for all the replies. I will try all of them.
