  1. Im going to buy the ko to paint and i had also planned to buy cheap ones with the crappy paint jobs and repaint them myself.
  2. Thank you. that is good to here. i was starting to worry a little bit
  3. But its just a clear coat for a Jon boat to protect the paint when loading and unloading and from the elements correct? You shouldn't really need to have a controlled cure. From what I have been reading the controlled cure is just for the gloss effect correct? IMO I like the more satin on a Jon boat than a gloss. It just makes it look better to me but that's my opinion. I was just thinking it would be cheaper to just stick it outside if your just using it for the protection of your paint from the elements.
  4. Couldn't you just put it on your boat then stick your boat outside?
  5. I wish I could. With the temp the shop is in the middle of the woods under basicly a canopy of trees and I live basicly in a hole. Its usually like 10 degrees cooler down here than the end of the driveway at the top of the hill. I think I'm going to do it in my grandmaws basement for now that also has a garage door until I get my own place. Can't wait till I graduate! Being 19 and stuck sucks lol
  6. My real consern though is there is no temperature control. If it gets down to like 10 degrees that night that's what it stays at pretty much all day. Lol. My other thing is the security of it I don't feel is real good for having stuff like this in. I don't want anything happening to it you know.
  7. All the big compressors are in my work building which is all metal and about the size of the house and cluttered to no end. I was going to do it there but there is no way to do it and 2 much dust. These compressors are also like 6 ft tall. lol.
  8. That sounds good Mad Moose. I'm just trying to get the cheapest way for the best product just like everyone else. I'm just starting out as well so I'm wanting to get the right thing first without screwing up too bad. lol
  9. Thanks for yalls opinion. I went ahead and got the NEO from hobby lobby today. I'm on a budget at the moment and i got it for $41 so i aint complaining. Figured something to start with it should be fine. I have compressors for things around the house but the are all huge so I'm just going to get that little one for like $64 for airbrushing in the house. Thanks for yalls opinions though I greatly appreciate it. I do hope to get a Iwata revolution BR in the future though!
  10. I have searched through the forums and haven't been able to really find what i was looking for so i figured i should just start a new topic and hopefully all you guys will read it and help me out. For the airbrush i was originally looking at the iwata revolution br to use for painting my crankbaits but i looking to see if i could find a little cheaper gun in the iwata brand since i here they are pretty much top of the line. I came across the iwata neo CN gravity feed dual action airbrush. It seems to be pretty good and almost the same as the br. I was just wondering if anyone else has used this brush and had success with it. I was also looking at getting a couple of the harbor freight brushes for spraying glitter and clear coat and was wondering if anyone else has done this. I will post the link to the iwata below http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/neo-cn-gravity-feed-dual-action-airbrush-395327/ Also on compressors i was looking at 2 different ones and i really dont know the difference between them so i was hoping yall would take a look at these to links for me and see if you could see tell me if there would be a difference in performance and which of the ones yall would prefer. Heres the 2 links. http://www.harborfreight.com/1-8-eighth-hp-40-psi-oilless-airbrush-compressor-93657.html http://www.harborfreight.com/1-5-hp-58-psi-compressor-and-airbrush-kit-95630.html Please and thanks to all of yall on TU for yalls great input
  11. Has anyone tried any other brand of uv top coat than the solarez? Also is there any places you can get it other than from the website so you can get cheaper shipping or from a store?
  12. Not trying to take over your post but reading this I got curious. If you buy the plastic blanks that are knock offs from predator baits, unpainted lures, bustinbassbaits, etc. And paint your own schemes and everything and sell them to local shops or whoever would there be any thing wrong there?
  13. Try predatorbassbaits.com and Barlow's tackle for your hooks. I know they got the short shank mustard triple grips for a good price.
  14. Where is the best place to buy the best blanks and accessories for baits? I have searched and found a few but seems everything has been the same so far. I am looking for a variety. I have seen pictures of baits that looked awesome and I would love the blanks but I can't find them. So I would just like to ask peoples opinions on where they get there blanks and accessories. Thanks to everyone!
  15. I have heard of this Solarez. I am looking to get started in our making and trying to find the cheapest way out on everything that will also produce the best product for the price. I have heard this stuff does really good. So my question to everyone is what exactly is it, how is it applied/used, where to get it, price and how is the product?
  16. What is DN? how do you apply the solarez, where do you get it and how well is it? When using it can just buy some uv bulbs and make a bos to put the baits in with it or what?
  17. I have read that with MCU you can put it in a jar to store and then after you use it spray some bloxygen in before you close the lid and that will keep it from drying. With the solorez could you add glitter to that if you were wanting it on the whole lure?
  18. I have also seen for a top coat some type of self moisture cure or something that you just dip it in to get your clear coat. When brushing on just the glitter do you put in anything or just dabb it on out the container? If so just curious how it sticks and stays with out going everywhere when you brush over it with your epoxy?
  19. I think ill just buy a good quality brush that will last so i dont have to get a better one later. Does anyone ever mix glitter with there epoxy to brush on?
  20. I also forgot to add if suggest stencils or free hand. Where do you get the stencils or how do you make them?
  21. So what about glitter. Can you use glitter paint in a airbrush or is it just better to mix it in with the epoxy to brush on the bait? I also heard somewhere that it is not smart to buy a airbrush under $100 and to get a iwata. Is this true for crank bait painting? I'm probably not going to get into so much of the carving my baits out of balsa but have been looking at unpaintedlures.com and some other places. I have been looking for mustap triple grip hooks in a size 4 and I haven't found any yet. Does anyone know where I can find them in this size? What is best to be used for thinningthe paint for your airbrush and to clean it?
  22. Im going to be painted plastics mainly by buying the blanks. Cant you also buy crankbaits already painted by companys and paint over them?
  23. I am looking to get started with painting my own crankbaits and was wondering what all i needed to do it. Hoping someone could tell me all the things i need to get to get started. Also where are places to get blanks, hooks, etc for crankbaits. What types of paint are the best to use and whats best for clear coating. Anything that i would need to know to paint my own baits would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
