  1. "It’s basically like a string with fur coming off it." Its called "Zonker Strip"
  2. Oh yeah, its a good all around jiggy fly. easy to tie and catches a lot of fish.
  3. Sounds like your set. This fly is just deer patch. little floatier than bucktail. I add wraps of lead to make it jiggy yet not sink like a rock. the eyes are just big bead chain. I agree a little flash on them is better. hook is a size 4 tiemco tmc 200r , has a long curved shank . It is finished with UV epoxy to make it durable.
  4. post a picture of the jigs?
  5. A inexpensive fly tying vice OR a pair of vice grips and a vise , some basic tying supplies you could have a thousand of those. jig flies That version looks real easy to make. I tie these (picture) in different variations , it is sort of similar to your 'jig' takes all of 2 minutes to make. It slays crappie, bluegill. Makes a good sabiki fly also.
  6. are they drilled through for wire? any pics?

    Foil

Dale if you're asking about nail foils.. they use a different adhesive than the hot press foils. I own a printing shop and we use the common foils a lot on women's and kids garments. The nail foils are really much thinner and much more flexible, especially if racked, heated a bit and put into a mold and pressed. (*low temp vacuum-forming ; ) The nail adhesive also isn't the same as the common printing and embossing foil glues (which require higher application temps and preheating to adhere the foil. The nail foil adhesive is closer to sally hansens or a low tack superglue rather than the much thicker embossing foil adhesives, which imho cannot be beat for irons, vertical/speed jigs and metal lures that you can heat, it's an aggressive adhesive and very permanent when heated but probably not the best choice for already smooth surfaced cranks and swimbaits. Embossing glue is better suited for metal jigs and is common with offshore manufacturers who thin the glue to stretch its volume and to fill gaps. they also need to be able to quickly brush it onto jigs in a production heat press setting. paints? I honestly dont know how wb paints do on it, the foils have a smooth surface, they take spray paints well so i would assume it would adhere by airbrushing..but i'm not totally sure. Luckily it's cheap and readily accessible online. so why not give it a shot? Good luck brother.

    Foil

might try looking into finger nail foils. They are thinner than other foils and when heated have a little stretch.
  10. i need to order some of these. I have been buying brooms at the dollar store and cutting the bristles to make weed guards. thanks for the info!

    The Slip Crank

    pretty cool bait. nice job.
  12. well s__t.. guess you could have the proto made from them and then make your own mold. would still have to balance the lure but it would eliminate carving and sanding the overall shape completely even. i'm going to play with it. thanks for the link.
  13. wow bro, looks promising. please keep posting with your progress.
  14. Mark how is that? is it related to hook angle? just wondering the reasoning behind snelling in this instance.
  15. Hi guys, happy 2017 to you all. I have a question.. I have a project i'm playing with and before i go and waste materials thought i would ask the pros first. I'm needing to pour some thin sheets of plastic. was thinking of heating the plastisol and pouring it onto a cookie sheet. maybe using more than i need and pouring the excess off to get coverage. then possibly using a spatula or thin cutting board like a squeegee to spread it thin? should i just pour it directly onto the cookie sheet? should i use something like parchment paper underneath? should i oil the sheetpan? will the plastisol self level? has anyone ever poured 2' x 2' x 1/8" sheets of worm plastic before? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
  16. without actually handling one....the customs look like you could possibly make one with a thru-wire design with ballast on the wire, a bit of poly foam for a core and saltwater worm plastic molded around it. painted and dipped in clear. the tails are separate pours in similar worm plastic. truthfully i bet you could make the head out of balsa/bass wood and pour the tails in plastic to the same effect. which would seem easier to me. after looking at the clone series they look like foam to me. $50 frogs seems ridiculously priced to me..
  17. regular kites tend to fly higher up in the air than an actual fishing kite. on a regular kite you have to adjust the bridle. lowering the aoa will make the kite barndoor to the wind thus taking away lift and making it fly somewhat lower to the water/ground. add a big dropper loop in the flying line and clip one of the loop ends, tie a release clip onto your line and hand launch. you'll need a dedicated "kite rod" for this. I've done this a bunch of times with dollar store kites for pelagics and it works. One little trick Ive used before is to add a split shot to one side of the trailing edge. this will allow you to veer the kite to one side of the boat or another so you dont have to be directly downwind of the kite to catch fish..good luck. ymmv
  18. ing you making some spinners for the salmon run? theyre already here bro. theres a guy in sac, he's on a fb group that sells the bodies and completes really cheap, i'll look his # up..
  19. theres blanks very similar to the ttm already available. you would need to learn to paint and finish them. also have you looked on the big giant auction site? there some sellers that have 3 for $10 ttm's maybe not the colrway you like but then again you can alway learn to paint them over..
  20. I like the action on them are you selling any?
  21. pretty sure ive seen the knock off blanks being sold somewhere of the manns 30 which i think is similar sized. i'll check my bookmarks later.
  22. Same wire I use to make wahoo bombs, i use end cutters and a flat file to deburr. Though the dremel idea is smarter and definitely sounds like the ticket..so much so its making me go to home depot this weekend....
  23. Cool! I know a guy that makes them out of old cd's... as long as it has the bend in it the lip they create a lot of commotion.. I'm making my own fly lips and pulse discs out of random plastics but not any chatterbaits.. yet..
