  1. Try putting on a layer of envirotex clear, and smoothing the decal into the envirotex, then go over it with another layer of envirotex. it will sandwich it between two layers of epoxy and shouldn't delaminate. can also use an adhesion promoter if you don't like that idea. available at auto parts stores.
  2. At this point I'm just wanting to see the original so I have something to compare to, I guess. I have no idea what they even look like in color or body shape except for peoples descriptions of them. Don't know what the plastic composition is, and how stiff or soft it is, or any of that. If anyone has a pack, or even just one sassy grub original in the smoke color, I'd be interested in figuring out how to get it from you if you want to part with it. I've looked literally everywhere and can't find any. Thanks for all the possibles, and I may give some of them a try too.

    progress shot

green could be a little darker from what I've seen of images of Peacock Bass I.M.H.O., although I've never caught one. Otherwise pretty spectacular.
  4. I've been making jigs since around 1984, but just recently got started doing crankbaits with a buddy for some unique patterns and colors that we don't see being made commercially. The learning curve is pretty steep on some stuff, but both of us have art backgrounds so we pick stuff up pretty quick, and have made what we feel are some decent crankbaits that we've already caught some fish on. Working on getting some good clearcoat finishes down, and some decent hooks on them that we like now. Otherwise living the dream. Again thanks for sharing.
  5. wholy shiz, I had no idea I was interacting with geniuses on here. Those are beautiful man. I'm jealous. You are in fact Yoda, and I am yet just a young jedi smallmouth warrior. Thanks again for sharing.
  6. Thanks so much Nova, I'll give it another go with the 3m spray and try to lighten up the coating. Much appreciation for you sharing your knowledge. I've got some ideas on how to use the holographic stuff, but haven't yet been able to pull it off.
  7. Thanks for the replies. I've tried the 3m spray glue, but haven't had good luck. Perhaps I got it on too thick. Question: Do you coat both surfaces and let them dry according to the directions on the can or just lightly spray the lure and burnish it on? If I can get the 3m spray to work, I'd be happier than having a product I have to paint on to expedite the process a little. I like the Holographic finishes as an underneath glimmer before painting transparent layers over it, but don't like an extra step that as of yet hasn't worked for me.
  8. I've seen heat transfer foil on the internet, and think it would be a good way to add metallic background to lures, but don't have a clue on how you could apply it to a curved surface successfully. I've tried regular jones tones stuff, but can't find a glue that is working good for it, and the jones tones company isn't selling the glue for it anywhere I can find. Any advice?
  9. leather punches could work too. I also use hollow brass rod that I get at Ace hardware and use a dremel with a cone shaped bit to sharpen the inside for punching out label paper for making eyes for crankbaits. Doesn't hold an edge long, but is very cheap and easy to resharpen. They also have hollow stainless which ive tried, but it takes forever to sharpen and doesn't get as sharp as the brass for some reason. comes in a bunch of sizes, one of them should work.
  10. I may be late to the party, but does anyone have any of these or know how to get or make them. They are allegedly the holy grail of cold water smallie lures, but are discontinued. Mr twister smoke sassy grub, not the sassy shad. They've been out of production for a while, and they still have the tri-alive sassy grubs, but not the ones I'm looking for.
  11. Dang nice work there. Are you sure there is enough hooks to hook up? Seriously though, they look like they should fool a fish into biting, but ya never know with Muskies, they're like a finicky female who isn't sure what she wants to hear or see. Not trying to be a smart alec, but I especially like the walnut bench in the background, kind of adds a bit to the photograph. Should get some attention.
