  1. Had the same thing happen with LPO jig heads when making bladed jigs (before buying my own mold). Since it has never happened with my lead jigs I guessed they were using tin to cut down cost, which just gave me another reason to buy a mold.
  2. I would cut the bill off flush or remove it entirely (making sure to fill and seal the slot), cut a new bill slot closer to the line tie. Like others have said, look at proven designs to establish location and angle. I do it frequently when working on a design, no sense wasting a build if all other things appear to be good.
  3. Look on YouTube for a video by Alvin Bowman, it might help.
  4. All give great advice but one key to getting better is to experiment. Adding an intercoat between colors will effect how they fade/blend together and how scales look.
  5. We are still around. I used to post under the name SpoRoller, mostly in the Hard Baits forum. Most are still around and just swing on by for a quick read without logging in, like I do. I walked away from building and custom painting for a while but was pulled out of retirement by a few of the old guys. Some are on Facebook now in various groups, still talking baits and building a few when we have time.
  6. I still use one along with my gravity feed and to clean between colors I keep a spare bottle filled with windex handy. Attach it to the bottom and spray to clean...
  7. So far I am liking the Rod Bond a lot, thanks Bob for letting us know about it.
  8. Bob, is that the actual name of the product? I am looking for something other than D2T that is less messy. I tend to get D2T on my fingers and all over the bill/bait.
  9. here is one I painted close to that color showing the back color i described
  10. Have not seen one in person, will have to visit the tackle shop. Based on pictures it looks like: thinned pearl white over entire bait black on upper portion thinned pearl yellow over the black (just enough to give a dark gold color) lightly dust peral yellow with detail or transparent sepia until it looks right thinned pearl plum on tail section lightly mist remaining pearl white area with iridescent blue. I will give one a go here soon and see how close I got it from a bass pro shop picture...
  11. try this: https://www.mckenziesp.com/Search.aspx?k=schedules you will have to click on a few to find the species you want.....not sure why they do not have an image
  12. most use something like krylon matte clear. I have read that it is not very durable though. If you want matte you will need to get away from water based paints.
  13. I am not much help on painting chrome or shiny gold but can offer some advice. Use the search function and look for chrome or gold. This site is full of valuable information, just a click away in most cases.
  14. better off practicing with airbrush than using marker/pens. Would be real hard to vary line size and color intensity with marker/pens. Try using frisket to make your stencil instead of holding it by hand
  15. Yes, that was primo stuff Swede sent some of us. I still have a couple of paulownia baits that i sealed with it. I have searched for it not so long ago but I need to resurrect my efforts.
  16. Yes it was....so easy to stir that pot.....
  17. I was just messing with you Skeeter! Didn’t think the others would pile on and restart an old, worn out topic!....
  18. What about Etex? I heard that is real good! Ok, ok...just kidding Skeeter! I love me some Devcon.
  19. would love to see the results
  20. scuff the nickel ones with fine grit paper or fingernail sanding sponge. spray witha bonding primer and you will not have any problems getting airbrushed paint to adhere.
  21. search this site for propionate, lots of information on it
  22. Interesting Blades....never thought too much about that but it does pool on the end of a hanging lure. On baits with sensitive weighting or balance it would cause a problem.....
  23. What BBK said....thin paint way down and go slow. Hand spaying dots can be very frustrating. I only do them if painting walleye lures and I don’t paint many anymore. Stencils work just fine!
