    702 Craw

I've always had better luck with the 706. I guess it really depends on where you're fishing.
  3. How much beads would you mix per cup? I'm currently using MF for my baits that need floatation but was wanting to mix some of the beads for my darker colors with Calhoun.
  4. We use a long rod with a mixing blade that we attach to a drill. We'll mix the drum for about 15 minutes then pump it out into 5 gallon buckets for easier transport to our production room. We'll also fill some gallon jugs for smaller projects.
  5. MF is the same way. Gets oily after a while.
  6. I've always had better luck with the 706. I know we sale more of the 706 than the 702 followed by the do-it Mud Bug. I've caught lots of fish on the Mud Bug.
  7. I have both the 702 & the 706. I've caught more on the 706 than I have the 702. I'm not saying the 706 is better, but just works better in our local waters here in Western Kentucky. I just wish they made the 706 in a bigger size. But out of the two you listed, the 702 would be the best in the 3.75.
  8. Calhoun is great plastic & is what I use the most. I'm also liking the new Polysol plastic. I think the next 55 gallons I order will come from them. It's really close to MF but half the price.
  9. I tested some of the new polysol plastic & it's by far the clearest plastic I've seen so far.
  10. Clearbags.com is the cheapest if you're buying 1000+ at a time.
  11. I have the basstackle stick & it shoots great.
  12. Calhoun medium is a great all around plastic that I use the most. I also use MF medium for floating baits.
  13. BTS makes the best 10" 2 cavity mold if you like the zoom style ribbon.
  14. Having your state & federal tax number is the biggest step in making soft baits in order to make any money at it. Your biggest cost comes from the molds in which the tax numbers really don't help much. Where they help is in supplies. Your biggest cost after molds is plastic. Having your tax numbers, you can go factory direct on your plastic & glitters and cut costs in half. As for colors, we sell lots of baits on our web site but most of our sales come local from custom orders. The most base colors ordered are green pumpkin, watermelon, junebug, black, blue, red, white, & silver. The two other requested colors are orange & chartreuse for colored claw tips etc. It's always good to have some white pearl powder on hand just in case someone wants pearled baits. For glitters you can start off with the normal red, green, black, gold, silver, & blue in large & small sizes. One of the most popular glitters for us here lately has been the small holographic silver.
  15. Also make sure to clamp the molds well. I had some molds that would suck in air if I didn't clamp both ends & middle of the mold.
  16. This is one we did for a customer with black & gold glitter.
  17. You can buy two 2 cavity 10in. Ribbon Tail molds from BTS for the same price as Bait Junky's 3 cavity. They are pretty much the same as a ZOOM Ol' Monster & shoot great. If the 10in. is too big & you're looking for something closer to the 9in on the smaller side, the enforcer 8in. 2 cavity shoots well also.
  18. We use both Calhoun & MF. MF has the best floating properties while Calhoun is more neutral. Depending on the style of bait we are producing at the time determines which plastic we'll use in the formula. Some of our bait formulas call for a percent mixture of both for best performance. But as for price, Calhoun is less than half the cost of MF per drum.
  19. We have peg board walls in our production room that we hang & cure our baits on for at least 24 hours.
  20. Talked to a friend of mine yesterday & he said he's had a custom mold ordered since November & hasn't heard anything from him.
  21. You can find a 60% discount code for psprint & have labels made. I got 1000 2x6 transparent labels for $96.00 shipped. With the transparent labels the bags look printed.
  22. The smooth one is the 3in. crappie carrot from do-it.
  23. We heat it up slow so we don't run into any problems. Most of the runs we do is a 1/2 to a full gallon at a time. We're going to keep about 10 gallons of MF on hand just for clear dipping.
  24. The only time we use a microwave is if we are clear dipping custom baits & we only use MF for clear dipping. Everything else is mixed & heated slow, so we shouldn't have problems with bubbles. My only concern is the floatation of the plastic. The plastic we currently use floats really well.
  25. Looks like I'll be calling Calhoun Monday & ordering a couple of drums. Thanks for the info guys.
