  1. I got my hands on some 1/8 lexan for free that is scuffed and ugly but will be good for prototypes. Strength is important when trolling for lakers because they do get smashed off the bottom at times and there is some lakers in the 30lbs+ range here. Biggest my friend caught last year was 54lbs I will try pining with wire and epoxy attaching and 1/8 lip first. If it can survive 8hrs on the down rigger and a few lakers it will pass if not I will need to beef it up thanks again
  2. Thanks I am looking at just getting a sheet of Lexan so I can just cut multiple lip styles to test. More my style then pre cut lips. I am sucker for doing things the hard way lol
  3. Most of my designs are lipless and the few lipped baits I have played with were metal. I have a few designs in my head I want to figure out and would like to go Lexan(or maybe another material if there is a suggestion) not metal The first design I want to work out the bugs on is 5-6 inch, line tie to body not lip, and will be use for pike/lakers What thickness of Lexan would you recommend? With the cost of Lexan and the fact I live in no where land and need to order everything I can’t easily get my hands materials to test things. So it would be nice to be on the right track for material thickness before I start experimenting with the size and shape of bill
  4. My painting is ok far from the level of some here Myself hands on is the only way. Get some scrap and practice
  5. Lots of big lakers in my neck of the woods and have had them trash baits. Also use some of my laker baits for spring salmon(kings if your American) Myself all my spinners made for lakers are with .041. Average fish are in the lakes I fish 10#-15# but giants over 50# Don’t be afraid to go big with spinners for lakers. If you look in the gallery you can find a pic of some I make. I have had 2# lakers take these with ease
  6. Only five is hard to choose when you target a lot of different species 1) kamlooper spoon yellow/silver and red spots. Caught every species of trout/char that swims along with pike and coho salmon. Not always the top producer but seems to catch a fish even on the toughest days. Plus they are heavy enough to cast or jig 2) Blue fox vibrax spinner pink with a silver blade. Trout/char/salmon just seem to eat it 3) 3 inch white twister tail grub jig combo. Bull trout, lake trout, largemouth, smallmouth, walleye, pike, rockfish, burbot, and lingcod all fall victim to it 4) beadhead woolly bugger orange bead, black, and a little purple flash. Bass, trout, arctic grayling, walleye, salmon, and crappie all go for it 5) Sinking rapala in firetiger. Predator fish just like it So many good lures, so many species, and so many different situations having to choose only 5 lures is evil lol
  7. A little off topic but has anyone noticed increased success fishing these baitball style baits? I have always been under the impression fish target 1 minnow our of the school at a time and for this reason I ? If this bait style is more so to target fishermen. Not trying to highjack but my curiosity is getting the best of me
  8. Jointed predator fly I use for pike and bull trout marabou and polar chenille body wire and bead joint for max movement rabbit strip pectoral fins rabbit strip for bleeding gills ice dub uv pearl and cone head with eyes for head tied on 3/0 Daiichi salmon hook and fish skull articulated shank
  9. Keeping foam in place will be simple with a through wire design kid made me sick so might be a bit before I get motivated to go to my shop
  10. Well it’s cheap enough I will give it a try and see what happens worst case it ends up in the reject bin and I don’t do it again lol
  11. Thank you for the research You have gone above and beyond what I would have ever experienced
  12. If I can pour alumilite whjte over the alumilite foam it opens possibility Roto mold won’t work do to design and intended placement of foam The price of unconventional designs and thought lol I seem to cause myself these problems often. Some experimenting and trail and error is in my future I see it now. The reject bin is going to get some new lures lol
  13. Thanks again will have to call was wanting to add a foam core so I had more control over the point of floatation
  14. Lipless minnow fresh out of the mold
  15. For testing weight location and the amount I use elastic bands to hold weight in place
  16. When it comes down to it you can always result to making your own mold and pour them Sometimes it’s the only way to make the lure in your head
  17. The methode you suggested have you tried it with a 2 piece mold? if so did you have any issue with sides not matching up ?
  18. This method will meet my needs especially at the testing stage Thanks a lot You have been a help since the start with my shift from strictly carving my hard baits from wood
  19. So should be possible for someone who knows what they are doing with all this fancy computer stuff Playing with the idea of getting someone to make me a smaller and larger master of one of my lures so I can make molds No doubt I need to pay someone this crazy technology stuff is too complicated for me. All that CAD stuff you mentioned was basically an alien language to me lol Just wanting to know its possible before I start bugging people. Don’t want to get the “you want what look” if I start trying to get it done
  20. Ok this maybe a dumb ? But I have no clue with 3D printing Is it possible to scan an actual lure and 3D print a smaller or larger version?
