  1. I was just looking at piping for this very reason, i'm glad some have been doing it as it assures me it will work. I was even thinking about placing a smaller diameter tube inside and just filling it with plastic, the inner tube would be just a slightly smaller diameter tube than the one I would fill so the tube is not incredibly thick. figured if i coated the sides, it should slide right out.
  2. I've seen people mention this technique a few times from previous threads I've dove deep into. im assuming just bend the wire like an L and dip horizontally then set the rod vertically, let drip and do it again a few times?
  3. For the guys making big tube baits 8" - 10", what are you using to dip your rods in? how are you keeping your plastic hot (assuming your container doesn't fit in the microwave). what rods are you using for dipping? I currently make only up to 6" tubes and the pyrex cups i use are nowhere near the size i need to dip 8-10 inch tubes.
  4. Thanks. Just purchased it, I am excited to use it when it comes in. So I am using SB Clear 3000 and black mica powder to make the kill dots. what is the best way to clean this stuff out, i have very little experience with it as i just go it and have just been mixing it in a tiny dixie cup. should i just run water through it?
  5. I was suing the back on of a paint brush but it would leave a huge droplet that would take a bit to dry and while drying, if moved, the drop would move a bit and leave streaks. I started using a q-tip yesterday soaked in the paint like a sponge and dabbing it on the baits. The pic shows the result of that.
  6. Frank, also do you have a video of you using it? would like to get an idea of how the paint flows on soft plastics.
  7. Thank you! that looks like an awesome tool. Does it required to be cleaned between use? can I fill it and leave it? Is the cleaning process easy?
  8. Thanks. I mixed some clear with black mica powder and its been working great just need to find a better was to apply it without leaving a large droplet.
  9. It is, its a bit of a pain trying to get the perfect amount of glue on the area I want and then using tweezers to carefully lay the piece of flake down but its been working for me so far, it just gets messy and my finger tips end up coated in super glue. . Figured I would see if there were any easier solutions.
  10. I actually just ordered from there, got a whole bunch of the sb c;ear coat stuff and forgot to add the black dotting paint. I dont think the bait pictured will benefit from a kill dot but I have other "shad" jigs that will definitely look the part with a kill dot. Recently i have been using the largest size black flake i have and crazy gluing it to those shad baits. you can see it in the attached picture.
  11. Thats a great idea, i actually forgot that i have a gluegun that i got from lureworks for this very reason, it comes with a tiny dowel to fill the cavity and it comes with a mold to fill with plastic with to make perfect plastic sticks to fill the guns cavity. Thanks for reminding me!
  12. Hey Everyone. Was wondering what you all use to paint your "kill dots" on your soft plastics. For a while I was using a sharpie but after it is clear dipped, it starts to bleed after a few days and the dot grows massively big and faded. Ruins the look of the bait altogether. I purchased some black mica powder but it doesn't come through very well. I have never used the "black dotting" paint from lureworks and I am hesitant to try it due to the shipping price from lureworks being about 9-10 dollars for as 3-4 dollar bottle. Does anyone know of any pen marker that will not bleed that i can pick up at Hobby Lobby or some art store. Also, for anyone that has used the black dotting paint from lureworks, how long doers a small dot take to dry before I can clear coat? The lure I attached below was painted with the mica powder but I feel like I need to apply a lot just to get it to show.
  13. Beautiful work. Do you paint on after you pour and how do you seal the paint to keep it from washing off? As for the pour itself are you just using clear plastic with a drop of black or green? thanks for commenting and sharing your work. I do not know the first think about varnishes or creating paints, would you be willing to share what you do know on this subject, seems like a lot of bait makers from poland paint using these techniques.
  14. And the 6 inch shown in this pic
  15. I have the triple dip, the double dip, the 2.75 from angling AI and the 6 inch from lurecraft.
  16. I have their entire BA Shad molds and they all shoot really good. They swim very good too.
  17. for 1/2 a cup go 1 minute at a time. once it starts to thicken and turn clear i'd probably start microwaving in 30 second intervals so that it doesn't burn. take temp and ensure you're at 350 before shooting it. how many drops? depends on the color you're using and depends on how transparent/opaque you want the color. start with 1 drop considering the amount of plastic youre using. stir it in with a butterknife or something and check the knife to ensure your color looks right to you. you determine how many drops go in depending on how you want your color to look. I dont use salt but if I did, id probably add it after. what are you making?
  18. I am referring to the numbers like 312 or 362, 142, 242 and so on from Bait Plastics. I do know that the higher the number goes, the harder the plastic but I want to know how they chose those numbers, do they have significance? I reached out to them directly and asked what the significance of that number was and all they told me was that it indicates hardness which for the most part I understood so I asked how they got those numbers and they said "262 = 36/38 & 312 = 43/45". however, i'm no math whiz and didn't understand what this meant. so what are the significance of these numbers? I ask at the risk of sounding dumb. oh well.
  19. I've been painting painting with powders recently and have played around with different top coats that were recommended to me the last time I posted. The top coat I used on these leave a matte finish but I love how thin it goes on without loosing any texture. I am not a big fan of waiting over night for the finish to dry off and even when it does, it is kind of sticky to the touch for a few days after. Anyone have any top coats that go on this and leave a glossy shine? any top coats that really bring out and maybe even up the saturation of the colors?
  20. I had the same problem with the stuff. Look up my past post about my tubes ripping. I switched to bait plastics and have not had any issues yet.
  21. Thank you very much! one last question. The 50/50 mix, is it by volume or by weight?
  22. Yeah they are. I have been trying to study his work for a while in hopes I can replicate.
  23. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I know nothing about Varnish, PVC Glue, MEK and other chemicals but it all sounds very interesting and something I will dive deeper into to get a better understanding. You mentioned I have to be quick to apply it with a brush, is it because it dries quickly? if I create a liquid solution using this recipe, will it remain liquid as long as I keep it sealed or will it dry out on me in the container? in other words, can I make a small batch of the recipe for use later or should I only make what i am going to use? thanks again.
