  1. Turns out Jet has an affordable universally mountable cyclone vac, Considerably more affordable too!
  2. It's a manufacturing flaw, not an intentional addition. Ken doesn't chuck his plastic in a vacuum so you get little bubbles and whatnot. My best performing Hudd has a massive pocket of air that makes it stand at a sharp angle.
  3. If you were to write a book I would read the whole thing in a sitting, no matter how long said book might end up being. There's not a lot of books on lure craft, and none that I have found have as much useful information in them as you have in a single paragraph.
  4. When I said "I'll use whatever is convenient for me" I was saying "this is my preference, but I respect your personal preference". Nobody is attacking or insulting anyone.
  5. Personally I'll use anything that's most convenient for me, but I recognize a lot of people are preferential to the qualities/aesthetic of handmade wood baits and have no interest in foams, resins, plastics, etc.
  6. If you must use wood, then wood you shall use. Though mind you with wood comes wood problems.
  7. Something I'm looking at trying shortly is carving with 15-20 lb^3 density polyurethane tooling board. There is no grain or texture to complicate the shaping and carving process, It's precisely shaped and available in a myriad of dimensions, and is even less hazardous than wood! Though I don't know if it will take molten lead or if I'll have to use solid state pre-cast weights. There's also a question as to whether or not it will react to tin-cure silicone mold substrates. You could also just use the tooling board as a lure body and skip the molding process altogether. Though it is a shade expensive for that much.
  8. Morning! Now that winter is settling in to stay a while I'm cleaning up the home workshop for a winter of productive bait making. One of the things I need to figure out is air filtration and dust management. Previously I've been painting outside, sweeping wood dust, and always wearing my respirator. This year I'd like to get some more permanent infrastructure in place for added workplace safety and cleanliness. I'm looking at getting a standing dust collector for wood particles, a hanging air filtration system for loose plastic/paint fumes, as well as an airbrush fume hood for paint fumes at the source. Already got a good respirator so that base is covered. My question is this; are there any airborne hazards or cleanliness issues that this investment doesn't cover and is there a singular machine that can do all of the above without my needing to buy three different machines?
  9. That's pike fishing for ya. Sometimes when I'm throwing big waling baits at pike they'll miss the bait by three feet or land on top of it and get snagged.
