Removeable Split Shot Mold (do-it)

Recommended Posts

Getting ready to get the Do-it removable split shot mold (RM-1438)

I've been fishing with a buddy that goes through around 10 bags every couple months

Is flexible wheel weight lead soft enough for this mold?

I've read of guys using plumbing pipe (soft lead?)

In my book, free lead is the best kind of lead :D

Thanks for any info and help.

Its ok if No.1 DON"T MELT ANY SCRAP LEAD TYPES IN YOUR POT BEFORE ITS SMELTED IN SOMETHING ELSE. Save yourself heart ache. NO. 2 test for softness, if you can scratch it with a thumb nail there should be a good chance the lead is content is high. NO. 3 Drop the pieces to a concrete or equally hard surface if it thuds may be ok if you hear a metal sounding ping cull it out. Some types of wheel weights are stamped with no. or letters see if the tire guy knows if they indicate additives to the lead. No. 4 take you time smelting your lead get it hot as you can . STIR STIR STIR SKIM SKIM SKIM. Get all the dross you can out . Just my two cents worth hope it helps.
