Ec570 & M32833

Recommended Posts

I've never found a light wire hook mold that stock interchanges the extra short eye leg 32833, and I use every size of the heavy wire from #8 thru 2/0. Not a slam dunk mod either, as enlarging and lowering the stock mold eye slots may still allow vertical movement of the eye resulting in sloppy off angle shank exit thru a collared head. A bit of high temp silicone can help to tighten up a modified eye slot fit. A light wire shank channel exiting the collar may also need to be widened to fit heavy wire.

Without having a Worm Nose mold, I would guess that a #2 32833 for #2 570 mod may not be practical depending on whether or not the modified eye position will be too deep into the head. Alternately, moving the eye position forward on the head or upping the hook size may be options.

The short answer is no it will not fit.  The hook does not sit straight but your big problem is that the wire diameter is larger so the mold will not close.  If you are into modifying molds then the wire diameter is not a problem.  You will have to modify the eye slot because of the wire diameter.  I do not thin you will have to modify the rest of the mold.  I don't think you can modify the mold enough to get the hook to sit straight.  I have attached a picture for you to see how the hooks sit in the mold. You can also see how the eye will not fit the mold.

Great pic JB - looks like the long shank channel may help keep the hook reasonably centered thru the collar if the hook eye slot is extended closer to the head with a just right precision mod. Meaning a hand held Dremel might not be best tool choice.

Hey fellow 32833 fan Big Will. I now use this hook in nearly all my personal use jigs, so most of my molds have also been bitten by a drill press.

Thank you for taking the time to check that for me.  I need #2 hooks for the order I have so will need to order them at LPO, but next shopping list will be filled at your store, sir.

If you haven't used any yet, the G 604 hook has a narrower bite than a same size # standard Aberdeen round bend light wire. ie: a #2 604 will look like a longer shank #4 EC 570.

The 604 also has a shorter eye leg than 570, so you might have the same mold fit issues as the 32833 if attempting to swap size for size.

Lastly, the 604 in smaller sizes will be an in between wire gauge compared with same size # 570 and 32833.
