Hooks

Hooks that are made to bend to free snags and then be bent back are called "Aberdeen" hooks and are usually 3/0 and lower. A really good one I've been using is the Owner 5318 super needle point, awesome hook. If you lose a fish because an Aberdeen hook bent while fighting the fish it is because you were using too heavy of a line without proper drag setting, I had a guy asking me if I could make a shaky head that the hook didn't bend or break like the VMC ones he was using. When I asked the guy what kind of tackle he was using he said he was using a medium heavy rod with 30lb braid tied to a 14lb fluorocarbon leader, well I told him that unless he downsizes his line and rod or he gets a shaky head made with a flipping style hook, they are going to continue to bend and break as they are made with light and standard wire hooks for light tackle.
