  1. Great point Smallie, noticed that when I was testing them out. Well, I didn't have much luck tonight. My biggest problems with tubes is that I can't get a uniform dip - I always get runs, clumps, bubbles in them. I let the excess plastisol drip off from the bottom and when I hang them I always get this solidified drip on the head of the tube. My other problem is getting the finished tube off the rod afterward without rolling them off like a condom (excuse the analogy). I'll go back thru all the tube posts to figure out what the hell I am doing wrong.

Oh, and the head of the tube is quite squared off compared to any regular tube, should I have ground the rod round before dipping?

Here's the pic of the "1 and only" I could salvage from the 8 that I dipped, lol.

  2. Thanks to Bojon and others' posts regarding tube dipping and Bojon's horizontal method I managed to get 8 of them made this aft and I'm gonna try to find time to dip some tubes tonight... wish me luck. Used 3/8" aluminum rod (4" flipping tubes) and drilled in metal coat hanger for handles. Didn't have JB Weld so I crazy glued 'em in, think that'll hold for a bit?

  3. Anyone know how to take the right (handle side) sideplate offs this reel? Can't seem to be able to remove the handle, there are no screws like most other Quantum reels. I've removed two screws on the inside right of the reel frame, and removed the stabilizer bar that connects the left and right side. I'm stumped right now. Does it "twist" off like the easy access left side?

This is the reel in question:

    Thanks!

  4. Thanks for feeling the need to moderate, this was directed at the original post, no other replies are needed.

Then why not send it to him in a personal message if you don't want replies from others? Wasn't moderating at all so don't be:pissed:with me dude. Was honestly really wondering how you extrapolated that he was out to rip Big Hammer baits off. Didn't sound like it to me.

    Have a great weekend all.

  5. Craft stores are a good bet as well if you don't wanna buy them sight unseen. I found a nice 6X4 bag, 200 for $6 CAD. Might be pricey but I just pour for myself and friends so I don't need thousands. Only prob of course is that it is a top zip closure and not a side one.

  6. Hi, since I'm fairly new to pouring I was wondering what your top 10 all time best colors were if some of you don't mind sharing. I do realize that colour choices vary by region and change season to season... just trying to get a better grasp of what to offer. Thanks!

  7. G'day, I just got my custom stickbait mold from Bob and started pouring with a 2 piece aluminum mold for the first time. Only problem I have so far is I'm getting a slight underfill along the length sometimes, when I pull the bait out it looks like a dent in the bait. I've been preheating the mold in front of a space heater til it's warm to the touch before using. And it doesn't happen all the time, maybe 3 out of 10 or so. Anything I am doing wrong?

Also, I haven't yet searched the archives but I have a question about what to do with my baits after I de-mold. It's a 5.5" bait that's about 1/2" in the center and 1/4" on each end, symetrical with no eggsac. Laying them flat doesn't work, the baits end up bent and crooked hours later. I've been stringing them on a length of piano wire strung horizontally between two nails by the filled sprue overnight before trimming the ends off the next day. Any simpler way?

Other than a few of these small problems I'm having as an inexperienced pourer, I'm extremely happy with the custom mold from Bob, quick turnaround, excellent communication and very fair price. Kudos to ya Bob for helping newbies to this hobby!

    Thanks guys!
