  1. Oopps posted twice, I dont see a delete option
  2. Jig master, If you want email me your phone number and a good time to call on Sat eve or Sunday and I will call you. vkeiper@gmail.com
  3. Jigmaster, Well, I was thinking of making 100 or so to test them out and see how they work. I used the 2 I made on Monday and they worked pretty good. I caught a bunch of fish before losing them to the rocks anyway, but they lasted longer than most of the open hook jigheads I make. So if you have some extra that you would like to sell I would gladly buy them off you. If that is too many let me know how many you would like to sell, any amount would help me figure out if this is a worth while venture. Smalljaw, I just make supplies to fuel my habit usually, I fish 2-3 days a week and I fish some nasty rivers here in NEPA and go through an enormous amount of jigs. If I can get a supply of the weed guards I would be happy to get some to you, though. I have found a company that sells something that looks almost exactly what I have come up with. The company name is "Oldhams" I just ordered a couple bags of 3 jigheads per bag at $3 A BAG! And they only use an Eagle claw hook, a $.02 hook, $.02 in lead and whatever the weed guard costs. $1 each is too steep, but just to see what they did different would be worth to have a couple here. Thanks, SS
  4. Hi guys, I am playing around with making a weedless tube jig, and I am done trying to use fiber. I had a couple gami's weedless EWG hooks that I cut the wire guard off and modified a 90 deg jig head mold to accept these and it worked pretty good! Problem I cant find these available at the usual sources. The ones I am looking for are made of a very thine wire and have a loop at the top that fits right in behind the barb on the jig hook. These are nice because not much pressure is required to collapse the guard as compared to the fiber. Here is a pic of the guard
  5. Well I have been playing around for the past week remelting some old scraps I had to get the process down till I felt comfortable mixing up some new stuff. So I made some green pumpkin and they came out great. Then I decided to try my favorite river color, Roadkill camo. I used the recipe found here on the site. 2 Oz 536 5 drops Green Pumpkin 1 drop watermelon 4 drops black matchhead worth of copper highlite It came out pretty close to Mizmo's road kill, but a few shades to dark. I was going to post a picture, but my camera died and I left the charger at work. I tried to add some more watemelon to get some black out and it did not look right. Then I re mixed and tried to add more plastic to lighten and it just got more translucent. I am trying to get it to look more brown and less black. Can anyone give me a hint on what to try to accomplic what I am going for? P.S. I wil try to post pictures of them once I get to work tomorrow. TIA, smallie
  6. Thanks for the repsones guys. This message board is very similar to my "home board" where you get helpful responses and not blasts that try to make you feel like you know nothing, although, at this time I no very little right now . That will change I am reading to try to gain more knowledge. I am not getting in to this to sell, but to fuel my fishing habit and make my own creations. Nothing gives you more satisfaction than catching fish on something you made! I have been tying arctic fox and rabbit hair jigs, and making spinnerbaits for sometime and loved it so much that I had to get into softplastics as the next step in my addiction. This winter I caught the most and biggest Smallies I have ever caught in the cold water, and I truely believe it was due to the baits I made. I outfished a couple very good fisherman this year on my baits and it was a very rewarding feeling. The plastics I use and have scraps from are from hand pours from a couple guys I buy from. The only high volume plastics I buy are tubes, and thats only because you can get them in almost any color, size and scent you want, for about $0.20 each if in bulk. But all of my go to baits are from small home made guys hand pours and custom molds! So, Thanks for the tips not to use the Berkley and GY! I do have some Mizmo tubes I was going to remelt with the other stuff, because they were close in color to the hand pours it had scrap from. I am going to HD tomorrow to buy supplies to build a ventalation system for my workshop. I dont want any fumes to make me grow another arm! Although that might come in handy to pour more baits! Thanks again guys!
  7. Of course two minutes after I post this I find a thread here through a google search on how to do this! Microwave 2-3 minutes. Check after the 1st minute and stir..
  8. I have been reading alot here lately and have got my supplies in, so I am about ready to start pouring. But I have a bunch of old plastic that I would like to melt down to practice with before I start using up my supplies. Because I bet my first few pours (if not more) are not going to be perfect. So can I melt down old plastics in the Microwave to practice? Or do you have to use a stove to melt them? From some other threads I saw that you have to melt them slowly. So I was thinking of the microwave 10-15 seconds at a time until they are good and gooey. Will that work? Thanks, smallie_seeker
  9. Very nice! I especially like the bottom one! Great job.. Is that gold flake .015 or .008?
  10. Where would someone get copper highlite from. I have looked on LC and did not find it. Is it powder?
